I suspect someone close to me is using heroin...shooting actually. i'm not here to judge, nor am i voicing any kind of opinion on this. i just want to know what the "symptoms" of heroin use are....like sleeping a lot, eating a bunch of candy, etc. what are some other types of common behavior?

i don't know whether to be worried about this person or not. i know heroin has a lot of social stigma surrounding it, so it is commonly bashed as "the worst drug out there," and i know that's not always true. but i also don't know a lot about heroin, and well......i just don't know what to think right now. i myself have never tried it so i don't know what it's like. it would be really helpful to me if i could get some tips on what to watch out for and stuff like that.

2nd question:
any H users out there that have ever gone through withdrawals in jail? share your story please.

well, what is it like? i wish i could get as close to knowing what it makes them feel like without actually trying it myself. what's with the candy obsession? why does it make you want to eat sweet things?

its just an opiate high. if you've done any opiate then it feels similar to that only possibly stronger. read some erowid reports or something. it makes you feel warm, fuzzy and relaxed and kills your pain. nausea, itching, insomnia, constipation, dizzyness and lethargy are the prominent side affects. as for wanting to eat sweet things, no opiate has ever done that to me as far as i can remember.

.

i totally get the sweet thing. whenever i do alot of opiates, rather it be percocet smack fentanyl etc i get the munchies for super sweet stuff ice cream cinnamon rolls doughnuts etc etc

Best explanation I have ever seen:

From:
Slam Dancing With Mr. Brownstone
This is the key to the heroin high: Nothing matters, hot or cold, fun or boring, big or small. When one is high on smack, one looks at the outside world and has only one thought: Who gives a fuck? You feel as if you've been wrapped in the most pleasing, warm, and comfortable blanket in the world. At high doses, you fall in and out of consciousness, and getting this 'nod' is what the veteran user prays for everytime he shoots up; to sleep the sleep of angels is the ultimate goal of the heroin addict.

with alot of people not all, your body stops producing endorphins as regularly as it should, so your body craves anything that will help to produce them candy usually chocolate especialy when you are coming down or starting to W/D. "the feeling of being in Love, biochemicaly similar to eating large quantitys of chocolate." -al pachino the devils advocate

the best way is to look at their pupils. lots of iv users are careful not to get tracks and it can be a while before they're bad enough to be visible. there's no way to know of course whether constricted pupils (or tracks, or other giveaways) are from heroin or a different opiate.

i've been through withdrawal in jail. what would you like to know about it? you sweat it out on a concrete floor with a thin pad underneath you, getting no meicine or replacement drugs, not even an aspirin, terrible food that you probably won't be able to eat, and no liquids except the water fountain on the back of a toilet. in a tiny room with 3-4 other people who are probably not going to be very sympathetic. it's bad

i can't imagine how horrible that must be. the person i know.....i think they went through withdrawals while in jail. the thought of it just breaks my heart.

You don't want to know what abrupt withdrawal from methadone can be like (which also happens to people in jail). If hearing about H withdrawal breaks your heart, methadone would explode and splatter it across the walls and ceiling. 8o

scratching a lot is another telltale sign and rubbing the nose.[/QUOTE

whats the deal with rubbing your nose? i do it all the time on h is there any reason of why tho?

^ i dont know why. but scratching isn't the best 'telltale sign.' only non-tolerant, occasional users are going to itch like that. it lasts the first two weeks of acquiring an addiction at most. when i have a habit the itch goes away and i don't know any junkies (daily users) who still get itchy like that.

it sounds like her friend is addicted and not chipping but idk. yea, good advice from yummy22 why not just ask him in a non-judgemental way.
