Guns/Weapons Discussion

^ Then it's just as well that you DON'T have a gun. If I didn't have any self control I wouldn't want a gun either.

But the numbers point to 2% of people using guns.

Why not use mace?

The numbers point to 2% in the ordinary home invasion. I'm talking about a different setting. I wouldn't use mace because I don't own any mace. If the circumstances weren't dire enough to need a gun, I'd pull a knife, but wouldn't dare cut someone until I felt my safety was severely in danger. If I ever fear for my life, someone's life that I care about, or something that means enough to me, I'd use a gun.

But the whole idea of having a gun is completely unnecessary. The cons weigh out the pros by far. You're more likely to use mace that's always on you rather than a gun in a break-in, according to common sense and the 2% figures.

Uhh .........I completely disagree with this. I am a tiny 120 pound 5 ft 4 woman.

I'll be damned if I want some freak on the street who thinks it might be "fun" to rape/murder/rob my happy ass, to get close enough to me to use mace!!! Mace on a windy day can blow back into MY face and incapaciatate me.

However, a bullet from my concealed sub-compact is GUARANTEED to fly ONE way ;)

^That my dear..... is common sense IMO :)

Went shooting a Glock .45 and a Chinese-made SKS today.

Arizona shocked the hell out of me when I first got here. You can have assault rifles (even before the ban was lifted); get a CCW after a 16-hour class; walk into and out of a store with a gun after an hour; don't have to register them, etc. etc.

I plan to own a small handgun (springfield 1911 .40cal or something of similar size/punch) once I'm old enough and have the expendable $$ ... but if I move to CA, might as well not bother.

I used to say that guns were evil, etc etc .. but face it, gun laws only hurt the people who respect them.

Sorry, but this is not 'tiny'. Petite, maybe. Tiny, no.

WTF does this have to do with guns?

However, since you brought it up:
Let's look petite up in the dictionary....assuming you know what one is?
;)

petite

adj : very small; "diminutive in stature"; "a lilliputian chest of drawers"; "her petite figure"; "tiny feet"; a garment size for short or slender women

I AM a parent. I have a 13 year old son. Taking MY gun away is not going to stop the death of any child whatsoever.
I have no problem with strict gun laws if they keep guns out of kids hands.
But how is taking my gun away going to stop the death of any child?????

Recently, in America, sexual predators have been killing children WITHOUT the use of guns. Terrorists have killed children in the Oklahoma city bombing, as well as on September 11th. WITH NO GUNS!!!!

What the founding fathers wanted is a grey area for me. However, I don't think that this is the question that needs to be asked anymore. The fact of the matter is, that guns are here in America. To outlaw them would ONLY take the guns out of law abiding citizens like me, who only carry them for protection. We need to focus on HOW to keep guns out of childrens hands....period.

I believe that education is the key here. Just like I believe that educating our kids about drugs, we should be educating them about guns. We've outlawed drugs....and guess what???

Kids still die from them.

every day in the usa, about 75 children are shot - of those, at least 15 die. the majority of fatal accidents involving a firearm occur in the home.

i expect that the parents of those kids who died also thought that taking their gun away would not prevent the death of a child.

except now their kids are dead.

Yes....I see your point. This is very very sad. If children are getting ahold of guns and shooting themselves, or their friends... then the PARENTS should be held responsible for this. It's really simple to stop this problem from happening. Start locking up the idiotic irresponsible parents who leave the guns out for kids to get ahold of in the first place!

We store our guns in a safe on the headboard of our bed. The safe has finger codes that will ONLY open for my husband or me.
(see the link below)
Parents just need to be fucking responsible for their actions...period. The ones who are not should be locked away.

Back to my original point: Taking guns away from law abiding, responsible citizens like my husband and I, will only leave us with no way to defend ourselves from the assholes on the street....who will ALWAYS have guns.

There are responsible gun owners and there are irresponsible gun owners. 8)

I heard about some kid stealing their parents car and dying in a crash. Lets ban cars!

I like guns. I don't own one but I do have my firearms card and I like to go the range and shoot. There is nothing like the feeling you get when you squeeze the trigger on a 40 caliber hand gun. Such power in such a small object amazes me.
