Guns/Weapons Discussion

Then do you agree that the ownership of cars or firearms should be a personal choice? Cars kill far more people in my country then firearms do.

Firearm deaths in my country are very low, even though almost anyone can get one if they are willing to go through all the paper-work and background checks.

So is the answer to ban guns completely? I don't think so, but perhaps gun laws and regulations need to be looked at in some countries.

but cars aren't designed to kill.

Which country is that? It obviously has a good education system about guns or something what is the difference between your country and america that makes your deaths from firearms so low?

For those that believe that it's their inalienable right to bear arms for self protection, why not investigate some of the less lethal weapons? There are plenty of stun/taser/gas types of things that pretty much ensure that nobody dies.
For those that believe in the whole 'overthrow the government' bollox, I say this... your government right now is a bit of a shambles. Human rights contraventions, complete incompetence re the whole Katrina fiasco, general offense to the rest of the world (Kyoto, Afghanistan, Iraq). Get fucking overthrowing! Load of shite, if you ask me. You're using some outdated legislation to justify packing a piece because, at the end of the day, it makes you feel big... nothing more.

Face it... there are alternatives, but most of you NRA types probably think they're a bit pussy... I mean you can't come out with all that macho shit about calibre and powder load if you're just talking about a can of mace. As long as you perpetuate any beliefs that guns, being instruments of death, have any place in society, you have the blood of everyone who has died or will die, needlessly, from a firearm on your hands. Dispute this as you will, but it is how it is.

Well in accordance to the original thread title. I love to go shooting.

I have 3 AR15s, one AR10 (in the works), a Mini Uzi, two handguns (one Glock, one Kel-Tec), and my CCW license. I'm also contemplating buying a Romanian AK-47 kit for only 150 USD. I keep looking at the site every day, and everyday I get more convinced that I could build it. None are fully automatic.

I see nothing wrong with having them. I'm an honest law abiding citizen, and never carry my weapons unless I know I'm going into not so nice neighborhoods. Otherwise, I leave them at home. I also believe in educating children on the proper usage, and the safety considerations of having them. Preventitive measure for the children, and something for then to have a realistic gauge in life about respect for life itself.

I do go to the range, almost three time a week, before I go to the gym. I consider it to be part of my training. I'm currently military, and plan on going for a SWAT position in a major city when I get done with my military service.

For the thread jackers:

I don't care what you think of my owning them. you can argue with about "your" morals all you want. I know what they are for, I will never argue that. It's my legal right to own them, and since it's legal, there's not a damn thing anyone can do about them. I will always own them. I never plan on selling them. I plan on buying more, mainly some longer rifles, and older Henry repeaters I have seen going for a healthy investment.

I've heard the argument for using non-lethal methods for self-defense, but in real situations when you would actually need to pull a gun, like intruders in your house, I'd rather not risk shooting myself in the face with a can of mace, which BTW mace is illegal in the US.

You can only buy it if you are a Police officer, or a Postal Employee. Otherwise all you can get is pepper spray, and that shit is worthless on some people.

Tasers have also been shown to kill some people. I'd rather trust my own aim to injure them, than their heart condition from killing them outright.

Which guns do you carry for protection? None of the AR's I presume... ;)

Kel-Tec P11. Great little gun for the price.

The AR's are for the home protection gig, and if the shit does hit the fan in the country, I want to be ready. Yeah, I'm one of those guys.;)

That's a completely nonsensical argument. The small chance of a weapon designed to incapacitate without killing actually killing versus the possibility that you can handle a weapon designed to kill well enough to prevent it doing so. I think not.

nowamai; if you are trying to argue that tazers and mace can match guns for self-defense purposes, your arguement would fall-short. These weapons are not as effective as firearms. Try arming all the police in America with mace and tazers only, and see how they cope.

right on.:) i don't have quite as much as you do, however, i am armed. i don't carry every day. my g19 is my ccw. i abide by the law. so that i can excersise my 2nd amendment right. don't criticize my choice. and if you reside in a different country, don't try and change the laws in mine. because it's not affecting you.

no you need a special, and very hard to get licsence to own a fully auto rifle or pistol in ther US. and chances are, that if you get said licsence, then you probably can get mace.

Anyone saw that Michael Moore documentary regarding the gunfights in a certain city involving kids?
Quite an eye-opener as to how&why the American people are so scared & violent.. Then they went to Canada and there wasn't one house locked.

i'm always intrigued when people say the reason they own guns is because its their legal right. that's not a reason to own a gun - it's a context in which you own a gun. put another way, that's a what not a why.

if that's the reason you own a gun, why do you not also own a hot air ballon; 250 wigs and a pet pig? you can legally own those too...

i disagree with a lot of what the more militant end of the gun lobby says but i'd have more respect for them if they called a spade a spade.

mike moore did a wonderful job mis-representing gun laws in the US. you all shouldn't believe everything that man says.

i own guns because i shoot competitively and for defense purposes. i also collect them. most of my friends hunt as well. i have always had a fascination of guns. i own guns to excersize my 2nd ammendment right as well. you excersize your 1st ammendment by speaking your mind. why can't i do the same by owning a gun?
