Going to see a psychiatrist for my opioid addiction

This addiction specialist psychiatrist is only going to be able to prescribe you buprenorphine if s/he has been certified to do so by attending a special seminar given to doctors on buprenorphine prescribing. Only a small fraction of board certified physicians in America are certified to prescribe it, so chances are your addiction specialist psychiatrist won't be able to either.

Better call ahead and ask to be sure before going through with your rather expensive and time consuming appointment with him.

I found the psychiatrist on a buprenorphine treatment practitioner directory.

Listen: I have ocd and the ritual of injection always calmed me as well. If you are going to bupe than you already know that there is a problem in your life that you cannot control on your own. Logically you are going to need to change pretty much everything in your life to make this work. This means STOPPING INJECTING DRUGS. There I said it. I am restraining myself from telling you how I really feel because I don't think you would like it.

I think maybe you should consider just being honest with the doctor about what you want to do. Chances are she won't let you get your script for bupe unless you go daily to a clinic because she cannot be sure you won't abuse it. This may actually save you some problems down the road and actually help you break the habit of injecting.

I wouldn't consider it advice if I didn't give you a reasonable alternative. Why not try meditation before you take your medicine. I get up at five every day to take my medicine and I meditate. It helps relax me. It actually relaxes me way more than injections ever did. If you are trying to get clean I would highly suggest reevaluating your life and tendencies so you don't just immediately pick up an IV coke habit.
