God is a concept

Perhaps on this day of the rapture, also Rosh Hashanah God is showing us that we should move on from 9/11.

Rosh Hashanah (Hebrew New Year) occurs 163 days after the first day of Passover, and is usually determined by the new moon closest to the autumnal equinox. ...

10 days after Rosh Hashanah is the Ancient Hebrew Day of Atonement.

So there's that ...

God? Big deal.
That's a perfectly valid concept to have.
Would you care to share why? There's no pressure as everyone's POV is welcome, we try to encourage others to speak their minds in this sub forum and get respect, and respect others in return.
We try not to change what someone thinks, but discover together the many ways that humans think and feel.

I think part of it stems from the psychological and cognitive bias called ”Agent Detection” where humans are prone to assume that an intelligent agent is behind an event/situation.

For example attributing the weather to some sort of intelligent force or invisible entity. Other animals do this too like the sound of a branch snapping meaning there is probably some form of agent behind it.

Combine this overtime with our existential anxiety, our self centeredness, ego and desire to explain the uncertain/what cannot be perceived or understood and naturally God arises.

However ritual/prayer/meditation/belief in something higher than yourself is beneficial for the human mind, I strongly recommend to read the psychology behind it. Especially why 12-step programs can work so well even for non-religious individuals (not saying its for everyone)

God is a concept devised by humans to provide answers to questions mankind has not found answers to. God is accredited with how we got here and what happens when we die. God is omnipresent, omnipotent and all knowing based on human ignorance. If humans accepted the fact that we don’t know everything we would not need god to answer the unknown.
Perhaps it is pride or ego that humans must have an answer for everything?
I think if we knew everything, we would be God ourselves. I am referring to humanity in general. But we do not know everything. And in my opinion, we will never know everything. And so there will always be people who believe in God.

That alone is proof that God exists.

I disagree a person must believe in god first before to that person god exists. It is not relevant whether god exist or not my point is you must believe. The second thing is god is a creation of the mind. The way a person perceives god is done in that person's mind whether they believe in god or not. When I say god, the image or idea of god is your personal preference of what god is to you.

The reason the bible describes god as omnipotent, omniscient, ever present, past, present and future is because god is a concept you will never physically see or touch.

People who go though the motions of worship, prayer, and study actively feed the notion of god's presence in their lives over and over again. This makes their faith in god strong because through worship and commitment make god seem real to them. If you don't believe in god, your life does not involve god to the extent of people who practice faith in god. You are the life you lead.

I'm a Christian. And, I believe Christianity had at least a partially accurate view of divinity before religious bureaucracy took hold. However, I am not so cocky as to think that my view of God is what God really is 100%. However, I do believe with all my being that God does exist. And, I know that using this particular framework to talk to God has resulted in God answering me occasionally.
Many paths to the same goal, grasshopper.
Pray 'em if you got 'em

Of course, I would not like to believe in a God as he is often described (one who is old, wise, with a white beard...) and yet seems so ordinary to the average person (believer).

I am talking about that (we could also say nature) which works even though we do not understand it. About everything we do not know, but which enables us to live, to exist.

I would take Einstein's theory of relativity, for example. It is a generalisation of Newton's theory. And since then we know that everything is much more complicated than we (or Newton) could have imagined. But it still works (very well to perfectly).

For me, this is intellectual proof of God (who created everything or is everything). And we are part of him.

When you get into observation effect and some of these physic defying (or so seemingly) concepts --- IDK.

Not believing its a man in a white beard that did it in 6 days and rested on the 7th so much -- but there are threads in life it seems that are extraordinary.

There is nothing in the Christian faith which says all of you will go on. Will I go to heaven and still collect pocket knives... want to smoke pot? My essence of being merging with God and finding the bliss therein could be what happens, the rest of me being of the world and falling away. I don't see thinking such a possibility is possibly true as heresy.

I feel like that was a shot at my knife collection lol (but I have seen you posting here longer than to believe that is true) *feel free to delete this when ya want*

Oh good than I have a relevant quote "I just saw a man on TV who had three tridents proudly displayed -- at first I thought: What a nutcase!! -- than I pondered....wait am I weird for not having a trident?"

(equally deletable)

Nah never heard that comparison -- guns or trucks either

Hold my Zweiihander for a second!! I believe (as do other experts) that a gladius and shield is your best bet in a CQB situation. All of mine are full tang and functional but realistically it is just a collection. (To prove how big my dick is) lol
PS laughing with you not mocking you

Picture of YOU holding my zweiihander Sorry to bring that place up
