^ Programming these days is seen as an aside to main certifications required for the type of role you're looking at. CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker) is seen in the same vein as the A+ certification. Ideally you want to be aiming towards ISO127001, NIST, COBIT, CyberArk, SSDLC etc. Even then most hiring is going to be dependent on having a Masters degree in Software Engineering/PhD in Computer Forensics, or 2 to 3 years in some kind of Data Protection /PFI investigation role. I think you're running before you're walking.

I have a personal friend who works at Westpoint Specialist Recruitment, I could put you in touch if you were interested.

Oh yeah don't get me wrong mate I'm not expecting to get that kind of job tomorrow. I'm saying it's my ultimate career goal. For now I'm focusing on learning more about programming and networking. But netsec is my primary interest.

I've looked into the certs and spoken to some experts in the industry, from how I understand it, it's all about Cisco for getting a foot on the ladder of netsec.

Unfortunately I don't see myself getting a master's. Certs are no problem. But a master's is.

I tell you what though, a lot of the guys I know in IT who are in like sysadmin or programming roles are self-taught. Same goes for the hacking end, as a lot of them were black/grey hat before they turned legit so are often self-taught, although they still get certs to put on their CV's of course.

Don't forget though by the time I get anywhere close to this I will have years of good experience down on my CV. If there's one thing I can see about IT, it's that experience is valued a lot more highly than most professions. That's why getting my foot in the door was so hard too. But finally I found a way (hopefully, if I get this).

Thanks for the info though mate I will look up each of the certs you listed. And yeah if you could put me in touch with someone I could speak to so I know what to expect I would appreciate that man. Like I said this is an ultimate career goal, not expecting to get there tomorrow, but a process and I hope it's where my career leads.

Frankly even if I find myself unable to get employed in netsec, I can still make good money in other areas of IT while on the side making money off bug bounties.

Awesome! I cant write too much I'm on my phone but yeah, even I found getting mya first job hard cos my 4 years coding for a PhD didn't count as experience. Once you're in if you're good you'll progress fast there's a shortage of good coders.

Degrees get your foot in thethe door but there's other ways I used to work with a guy with no gcses but he got in by having written a decent bitcoin miner back when that was worth doing.

Switching focus isn't hard if you have transferrable skills I'm a bioinformatician despite knowing little biology, my data analysis and strong computer science make me better than most who followed a traditional route.

Yeah that's exactly what I'm saying. It's all about experience in IT fields. Degrees matter much less than most jobs these days (a very good thing imo).

The reason they liked me so much in that interview is largely because I could list out projects I'd done on my own. It shows I have experience and enthusiasm and can teach myself this stuff even for no money just because I like it.

That's the kind of people they look for.

yep, i hope you get the job but don't get disheartened if you don't. there will be others.

related to hacking- have you read 'to kill the truth' by Sam Bourne (actually Jonathan Freidland)? There's an awesome bit about someone hacking Google. I have no idea how realistic it is but it was basically social engineering. Security testing does sound cool- I used to do stress/performance testing for large companies and found loads of awful flaws. Like one user logging in, on the other side being a completely different user from a different bank with different permissions. This was on the trading platform used by a company that had money roughly equivalent to the entire global economy flowing through it every day. Then they wouldn't tell us their protocol so we had to backwards engineer it to tell them how to fix the bug. Then they got annoyed that we knew their protocol. Idiots.

FUBAR that picture is a little traumatic!!

I'm already shitfaced since 6 am, on 3 mg alprazolam, 1500mg tramadol, switching between robert greenes book called mastery and advanced c# tutorials on udemy

Stories like that are all too common, thankfully these days companies are realising that proper security is a serious issue now that absolutely everything has been put online hence the big money paid to netsec guys. The GDPR is also having a huge effect on this. I've spoken to people in companies who were so pissed off at GDPR preparations. I am just there thinking... why aren't you doing this shit in the first place? It's basic security practice to have control over the data you retain ffs.

Oh and yeah a lot of what pentesters do is actually social engineering too, the number one exploit in any system is the human behind the keyboard. Have you seen Mr Robot? Very very realistic depiction of hacking in that, they even got netsec experts on as consultants. In one episode they did a massive hack on a huge ultra-secure data centre just purely by social engineering. Oh and the main character is a junkie addicted to opiates too.

Lol what a bluff I pulled on a huge electronic shop company, so I bought a vacuum cleaner which automatically turned on when I pkugged it in and the off button was not working. So I went back with it and got in service at them, 20 days passed no sign from them, I searched for the biggest lawyers in the nearby county in case they really knkw the ones from here, and I told them that he is my grandpas brother and I'm suing them without loosing a cent on my part, than quoted a big mediated comercial suit in which that hungatian lawyer took part in, the lawyer had to be hungarian because my name is too, so it sounds more real.
Long story short I'm getting a new vacuum cleaner and a better one lol

Haha few stories like that. One was when I got for my birthday Beats headphones. This was way before they got bought out by Apple and they were utter shite. I got the receipt and a replacement because bits started falling off the things. The next pair only one side worked. The next pair again fell apart and one side stopped working. Eventually the shop was like... do you just want a different brand? So I got a pair of Bowers and Wilkins which are worth much more and they did me good for years. I still use B&W to this day. Solid audio gear.

Funnier story, so I got a gift card given to me again as a birthday present, for a popular restaurant chain. But when I went to the counter they told me it had no money on it. I showed them the birthday card that came with it to jog their emotions and they admitted there's been a problem recently where they weren't topping up, so I got the money off my food and they gave me the card back.

So of course the next few times I went to that chain (different stores ofc) I went and acted like it's never been used and should have money on it. Never failed, they kept giving me free food.

:LOL::LOL:

free meals are welcome anytime, but what were you doing eating that kind of food? you should;ve been eating your enemies, crushing them entirely

I've been using audio technica m40x for 6 months now, I love them, used the for producing beats also and they are kind of decent for mixing/mastering too, but I enjoy listening to music a lot on them.

I really recommend them if you want to buy a pair in the future, they are a little big not as big as the m50 but still big. they aren't that pricey either considering the quality and the prices of other more proffesional headphones.

from what I've heard beats were always kind of lacking, but the marketing which was pushing them made by Jimmy Iovine was insane, I really like that dude

Good shout mate. I got a pair of Audio Technica ATH-AR3BT's for when I'm out and about because they were only £50 or so and are wireless. Bluetooth connection on them is solid, battery lasts forever, volume is loud without distorting, and they're comfortable. Plus they don't stick out like Beats so no one will bother nicking them.

Audio Technica do make good stuff, most of their headphones are plastic and feel flimsy and don't come with a case which makes me a bit paranoid I'll break 'em, but the actual audio quality you get off them is great and I've had mine for easily six months now with no problems. Just as good as any Beats or whatever for a fraction of the cost.

I've tried the new Beats that Apple make, definitely better than the shite they used to be when Monster Cable manufactured them, but still overpriced too. Then again it's Apple of course it's bloody overpriced haha.

Ahoy you lovely lovelies! ❤ ~ ? ~ ?
Oh what a horrible, sober night I had. I have cut down considerably though (touch booze maybe 3 x a week) and even had cash to score on me last night but didn't
Feeling lush just with 1n1 and getting back into "music".... So.... yay, I guess :)

Good on ya mate. I myself have cut my benzo use right down to my actual script and am close now to being fully off oxy.

Crazy dude! Eyes rolling, warm rushes, feeling amazing :D I've got a gram of ket for the come down too :sus:
I hate you :D Give me some MDMA and Ket over the ensnaring evil I'm on any day!
Full report expectation 2nd'd

Excellent to hear man! That is absurdly brilliant as I know how hard it is. Keep it up ;)

how much did it take for the benzo physical dependence to set in? I never was a heavy user, consumed from time to time, but I'm thinking of using this xan for 2 months because I'm at my lowest mentally and I don't want to get on a AD due to tramadol being a SNRI too

wanted to quote it in the cigg thread, but I'm gonna tag instead @Wilson Wilson

Using alprazolam daily for two months will likely cause minor withdrawals, if you use low doses though like 0.5mg and stick to that, it should be very minor like rebound anxiety and mild insomnia.

I recommend a longer lasting benzo for daily use though. Clonazepam is much better for that kind of thing whereas alprazolam is best prn. I can even use clonazepam daily for ages and have very little withdrawal when coming off but this is at only 1mg daily.

Consider also weed and kratom to help lift your mood without causing too many problems with side effects or addiction.

Hope you feel better soon mate.

Thank you man, I absolutely plan to especially if I get this new job.

clonazepam has me on my ass, even at lower doses, maybe because I take it sublingually but it used to be my favourite benzo to use on ocassions, always said that alprazolam was overrated, but this pfizer shit really has a soothing calming effect on me without making me sleepy or sloppy.

I stopped smoking weed when I stopped the ciggaretes, it makes me very unproductive and I spend lots of money on weed as I smoke alone 100% of time.

is the alprazolam a huge obstacle in your learning process? in sense, if it has a major impact on the cognitive process related to learning and working? I just dropped out of uni, so I'm gonna put in 5x times more work so I can prove that I don't need that CS degree, if it's gonna be an obstacle I'm gonna think of another alternative

Benzos in general do Impair you.I was prescribed them at uni and noticed within 15mins of taking a dose I couldnt do my work anymore, within half an hour I didn't care. That's why I always had a huge preference for short acting benzos, I used them throughout my studies and couldn't even work the next day if I took diaz. Temazepam was, my favourite by far.

I'm gonna experiment with it, but if it's gonna be a turn off, I'll give up the idea, because I don't want to stop the advancing of my career just because I'm in this mental state.
