(CNN) — A cyclist died in Australia on Sunday after being startled by a swooping magpie, a native Australian bird that gets aggressive in the spring around breeding season.

The 76-year-old man was riding his bike in Nicholson Park in Wollongong, south of Sydney, when he veered off the path to avoid a swooping magpie, according to Wollongong Police.
He then crashed into a fence post, was thrown to the ground, and suffered serious head injuries.

The man was airlifted to Sydney's St. George Hospital and died that evening, police said.

Anyone have cats here?

Usually I hate them as they kill birds, spray stink out their arse on stuff & dislike people but this one little brute I've been saying hello to for some time & always see it around. Seems it has no owner & someone has made it a little home in the bushes where it liked to sit. They have given it two bowls (one for cat treats & the other for water) & given it a old cushion to sit on & a blanket over some sticks to keep it dry. The other day I say hello to it & it seemed to keep looking at me when it would walk a few steps to see if I would follow, I did in the end & it took me to it's little Cat-nip den. Each day now I go by I check on it & it does a meow at me & comes out to see what I'm upto & gives me weird looks when I walk off.

Do cats remember people?
Are you allowed to take a cat that is stray back to your home?

This little homeless brute seems damn smart & I like it a lot, I always check in on it when I go into town, I know it sounds mad but I'm sure it can remember me in a cat way.
 
Of course they remember people, especiallyI people who are nice or not, so they can approach/run away.

Don't take a stray home, it is cruel to keep an outdoor confined inside, and if you have a cat flap, it will just leave, maybe bug you for food occasionally.
 
Its the freedom, if you have a cat flap try it. If not, its unfair, even my cat would go nuts if you kept her inside and shes used to being in a house.
 
You wait till it's cold and that stray will be over the moon when it can sit in the warm.
Most cats I've owned have been adopted strays and I've never regretted doing so.
They're allowed outside anytime.

When you treat them right they can give you so much back.

Don't put a water bowl next to a food bowl. Cat's won't drink from something next to where the food is because the water could have been infected by the 'kill'.
They should be genetically programmed like that, some will drink next to food.
 
Saw him/her again this morning & gave it some green monster which it seemed to like.
It greets me with "meow" when it catches sight of me which is better than hissing at me & getting ready to jump at my face & take my eyes out like most cats do.
 
Heard a piece on gravity bikers yesterday on BBC Radio 4 that is huge in Columbia.
They add weights to their bikes upto 40kg & go down the hills with no brakes.

Cats definitely remember peeps, though they just act so nonchalant that they give you the wrong idea.I wuv the lil' blighters though :)
 
evening eadd- i know your'e all out getting battered like self respecting druggies but i'm not allowed drugs anymore so i'm going to have a moan.

i have a stomach erosion from drinking too much, even though i stopped that 7 years ago it doesn't get better. its flared up due to a viral infection. i went to the pharmacy cos it was killing me. the pharmacist would not give me omeprazole cos i was having symptoms. what the fuck is the point in going to a pharmacy? 'i don't have any symptoms'- 'great you don't need any help', 'i have symptoms' - 'oh we can't help you, go to a doctor, at half 8 on friday night, or a &e, at half 8 on friday night.' fuck that.

i cried in a supermarket over a fucking OTC drug that isn't even recreational.

then went to another pharmacy and got my friend to go in and get it.

would have been quicker to score a dark (which really actually helps my stomach) and i'm near rusholme so that shits good.
