๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ Social ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ Gibberings ver. CCXIX - "what's new, c*nty chops?"

Any fans of this guy on here?

Sat down for a few days of reading, I'd heard of this guy but only knew he had what I felt was a small Junk habit, I learned I was wrong.
I'd heard him before on BBC Radio 4 & fell to sleep hearing his waffle, anyone who knows what "Raam Naam Satya Hai" means & has sat at Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi is good by me & worthy of me taking a 2nd review of my opinion.
I've tried. I've enjoyed patches of his work. But found most of it totally incomprehensible tbh.

Literally needed a dictionary every sentence. And I don't think my vocabulary is poor or limited.

I'm not sure if that means he's a good or bad writer, but is he just showing off his vast vocabulary?

Like if any musician were just to play stuff just to show off what they can do, regardless of it's enjoyability for the listener, they'd be called wanky, as they are showing off rather than concentrating on what's more important - the melodies etc and how it affects the listener.

I guess it depends how much you like that kind of challenge.

Is his autobiography an easier read? I think I might enjoy it, if it is.

100% with you here.

Had the same thing from hearing him talk, he came across as the kinda person who goes to Oxford or Eton & uses long words to "show" how educated they are & really it just shows how much of a Cunt they are.

Without question a child could read it, they may not understand some of the chemical names & street slang for Heroin but apart from that it's a simple read & I enjoyed it quite a bit.
check this.........

Hmmm. I may try and get hold of a copy on audiobook.

But thinking about it a bit more, I'm not sure if reading any further addiction memoirs are the right sort of thing for me to be reading right now, as I'm trying to head in the opposite direction,.

Unless there's a hefty section on withdrawals, recovery, and successful sobriety to round things out?

You know many of the difficult aspects of some of Cormac Mcarthy's works, can be removed by listening to them on audio book?

That way you dont have to struggle to try to make sense of the almost total lack of punctuation marks and quotes, as a good narrator does that for you, even having different voices for the different characters. So even Blood Meridian, which even 'experts' consider a difficult book, was one that I found relatively easy to follow. Not because I think I'm smart but because the audiobook format makes all the difference in the world. I mean I followed the book, on the surface level at least, easily enough, but I must admit I needed some background and guidance to start figuring out the deeper levels and stuff. But that's not too bad I guess, unless you're an expert reader or have a degree in literature or something, anyone is going to need some kind of background and context to get more out of the books?

I've read 2 or 3 Cormac McCarthy's now, and I definitely think "He's the Man!" (For me.)

His style is just so amazingly stylish!. I know that's bad English, but I think it conveys what I'm trying to say, better than anything else I can think of right now. He's just Jaw droppingly brilliant at times.

Must read / listen to more of his books.

But annoyingly I cant get his first book to complete the d/l of the torrent. Otherwise I'd have them all, and go through them all in chronological order.

I might have to get on of those audible trial offers again to be able to listen to it. I presume it will be on there.

I just cant read physical books any more for 3 main reasons. The mind wandering is uncontrollable. I literally cannot complete one sentence without the words causing multiple distracting trains of thought. Audiobooks force me to keep up and keep concentrating. The eye strain of reading books is also very uncomfortable for me. And finally I just fall asleep within 5 minutes maximum if I try to read a physical book. :roll eyes:

I cant explain why I have none of these issues reading forums etc. I guess it's a more active form of reading? And not so potentially overwhelming, as most posts are brief and to the point. Rather than having a whole 400 page block of words to go through, which may be subconsciously putting me off.
If you like McCarthy's darker moments, the definitely go for The Room by Hubert Selby Jr. Just so relentless that by the end you're almost desensitised.

Ibiza Final Boss!!!!!?????

Did you pick Cam Kirkham at random or a more regular viewer? I only ask cos we are in the latter camp. At risk of sounding a total boomerโ€ฆ heโ€™s such a sweet-hearted lad itโ€™s hard not to like him. Very much S-Tier as far as British commentary channels go imo.

but then I noticed it's Ludlow garage in Cincinatti, so probably a bit too much of a trek
Yeah just a little bit.

When I was a kid we had our school trip to Ludlow & had to sleep in a huge tent, the memories of one guy who's socks stunk so bad is still burned into my memory, he stunk out a whole Yurt that held 15 people.

His flow on this is amazing, one of my all time loves of his work.

^^ I used to have pretty smelly feet (not insta-puke like I've smelled before from others ewww, but quite pongy) - then 2 days after quitting nicotine (20-ish years ago) feet were suddenly smelly no more, massive difference and another bonus of quitting

Am not sure how people can be so unaware when their feet smell that bad, I guess they're just used to it. Idda been kicking that kid outta that yurt until those feet were cleaned for sure (unless he was much bigger than me ofc, cowardice etc)

During my junkie years I had a pretty sweet flat. As such I attracted fellow junkies needing a place to stay. You can see where this is goingโ€ฆ

JeesusFUCK this guyโ€™s feet were honking. Like however bad youโ€™re thinking youโ€™re gonna need to multiply that at least tenfold.

These bad boys could pick you off at a good 20 yards. And thatโ€™s shoes on. No kidding. Fukkers were fukkin lethal!

Literally never knew this cunt to take a shower in over a year of living with him. If it werenโ€™t for the daily gear intake (leaving me free to focus on stones ๐Ÿ˜Ž) he provided - even a lily-livered Nancyboy like me wouldโ€™ve hoofed him long before! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Yeah I known a few like that too sadly, I've had so many over the years end up on my Sofa for some time & in all that time they never had a wash or shower too. It's so easy to do imho as you put the kettle on when you wake up for a brew & go take a morning piss you fill the sink & wash your armpits, feet, arse etc, it only takes a few mins to do.

I know very well if you are sick the last thing you wanna be doing is getting naked & maybe having to use cold water for a wash but it's a simple task to do, some junkies really are worse than dirty animals.

One woman I had with me for ages never washed in ages, she used to keep the b in clingfilm stuffed in her vagina, you could smell her "punched Lasagna" each time she got the b out, she would then wipe her fingers onto the blanket she slept under, it got to a point after several months parts of it had gone hard like a piece of Toast, I burned it when she left as I refused to wash it & keep it.

The best was when my mates dog came round one day when he was scoring, I knew him well so I'd let him in to have a toot when he scored, his dog caught a whiff of the blanket & went mad over it, his nose was stuffed so deep into it & it was sniffing like it was a huge balloon filled with N2O.

I have found if you are dope sick a really HOT shower is amazing & you feel so much better after a good shower, if it's a Power Shower even better in my experience.

The last few months I have taken up cold water blasts, I have a really HOT shower & get it as hot as I can cope with, I get my head under it & flip the control over really quick to full blast & freezing cold, the sudden shock to the body etc of really cold water over the head when a few seconds before it was really hot causes such a rush of Oxygen & the body jumps even though you know it is coming, no matter how rough I may feel on waking up from the night before this will clear it.

^ I used to back in the 90sโ€ฆ does that count? =D

I was looking more info on Ibiza Final Boss & the guy Cam turned up as the 1st result.
I have no idea about him but after watching this video I like his style.

Try that one - watched it earlier and is a good mix of criticism, wholesomeness and japes imo.

Aaah I see what you meant by your original post on the subject now.

The relentless and ultra-graphic XXX rated nature of the violence, and not the difficulty of following the thread of the story.

You'll know that either aspect can and have put many off finishing the book, but apparently it has still become one of McCarthy's more popular books.

That did surprise me because The Road, and No Country For Old Men, are so much more accessible and enjoyable, if that's the right word. As both still very bleak, but such amazing books! The films were awesome too, but with such amazing source material surely any decent director and actors could have made great movies out of the books. I'd say the cast chosen to play the characters from both books could not have been any more perfect.

Over the last few days, I've found that his first book, The Orchard Keeper, is available on audiobook format on Youtube, (the torrent d/l looks like it wont ever complete) but it has very mixed reviews, and it generally seems to get ranked as his worst book.

With those that dislike it, mostly not liking the lack of coherence or any clear plot. I'll probably still give it a try anyway, although will probably seek out some kind of guide as I'll probably soon reach the stage of not knowing WTF is supposed to be going on, by the sounds of things. Although It has been compared to Theroux's Walden, and if there is any great similarity of subject matter, I'd probably like it, if it's about people trying to live self sufficiently in the wilds.

The 70s OG show with Telly Savalas?

Not sure which guy in the suit you mean, I can only remember the title character tbh. And he looked nothing like Burroughs?
