๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ Social ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ Gibberings ver. CCXIX - "what's new, c*nty chops?"

I was gonna make a celebrating thread about that annoying yellow button disappearing, but i can't make threads anymore.

Maybe the yellow button was a make thread button. I only ever reflected on it as a nuisance. RIP yellow button, sorry for never quite understanding you before it was too late.

I finally had to bite the bullet and buy a new (almost new) computer yesterday as the HDMI port on my old computer broke after about 15 years of use, meaning I could no longer connect it to my TV to stream content in the evenings. Still it served me well for many years and it will now become my reserve or back up computer.

By chance I had ended up using Ubuntu on my old computer as the PC repair guy recommended that I use it as a free and trouble free operating system.

I have to say that although it froze and crashed a lot less often that Windows, and to my knowledge I never got so much as one virus on it, let alone never getting hacked, (I didn't even need to use any kind of anti-virus or hacking protection software), despite all that, it is good to be back on Windows.

Although almost by definition Microsoft are the embodiment of the evils of a capitalist monopoly, plus they try to spy on everything their users do, it is nice to be back on a Windows operating system.

I never really found a way into Ubuntu as beyond the surface level it's really not user friendly at all if you like to tinker around a bit with the way the computer runs, and it's nice to get back to the familiarity of Windows and to be able to do some tinkering.

First tasks have been to bypass the attempt at enforcing a Microsoft account login, remove all the 'bloatware', telemetry (spying apps), and all other unwanted shite in order to improve the running speed of the thing.

DuckGoGo set to browsers home page and VPN on for maximum privacy.

So far so good. The only problem so far has been that my new computer isn't recognising my external mini hard drive, so it's going to be a bit of a pain to have to copy my files over bit by bit via some smaller USB drives I have, but those are the only ones that the new computer is recognising.

I'm a big proponent of Ubuntu, especially considering the laptop I use daily woukd have been junk several years ago without it, and I think one distro or another will be my main terminal for many years to come

That said, an extra partition to run windows and windows stuff is necessary for some office and work related stuff occasionally

Fuckin hell a week of dark n light fucked me for a week after - I always say to myself 'that's it . it's not worth the misery' then a week or so later its '..well maybe just one of each and leave it'.. Will I pick up again? what do you think.

That definitely seems to be increasing usage.

I've noticed you go from a one dayer session every once in a blue moon, to now using for a whole week, and just one week later thinking of getting back on again.

It definitely looks like something to beware of to me, especially if you have a history, which I've gathered that you do.

Yeah that's the circumstances I ended up using it too. I got another 10 years out of an old pc that way, and it's still running fine now, apart from some broken hardware with the hdmi socket.

I guess when microsoft try to enforce me to shell out on new operating system on my new pc and when support ends for the current one, and it starts becoming unusable, I'll probably do the same thing again.
