I was in my garden talking to the guy who lives next door, something had dug up a dead cat I had buried a few weeks before & he came round to tell me it was ripped in half & dumped in the grass, it was starting to STINK & I had to rebury it ASAP.
His dog was loose in the garden, went mad & jumped the fence & took a piece out my leg, all I was doing was talking to the guy.

Only Witnesses are me & the people next door, I am starting to see how this may not be such a simple case now.

unless he just holds his hands up and says fair cop, it will likely get into the old bullshit of he was aggravating the dog etc.

lies will be told.

ultimately you were still bitten though.....

the cops will help see through that shit and their report back to the courts will carry more weight if there's a major difference if both your stories.

courts aren't stupid though, they'll know the neighbors will all stick together and tell the same story, just depends how far their BS goes and if the police get deep enough involved to have to interview them and cut through the BS by finding inconsistencies in their story.

but as I said I doubt the cops will go that far, they have better things to do and simply won't care, so it will end up in court for a judge to decide....

usually shit like this gets settled out of court before, but your legal rep will best advise on that....

another problem for you to think about, if you go down the no win no fee route you'll get fucked over on what % of the settlement you get, if you pay for legal rep yourself brace for how much it's going to cost up front to pay for a solicitor!

Dogs are the main reason I don't use the fair bit of common green space around here.

Got a dog bite from the dog next door, my "mates" are saying to take legal action against the people as I'll get cash 100% in a Court as their dog was out of control & I have damage to my leg where the fucker got me, I should have kicked it in the face or in the balls but I expected it to just bark & not actually go for me. If it jumps the fence again I'll not waste a second & grab it by the scruff of the neck & Choke Slam it's ass onto the floor & if I break it's spine fuck it I say.

I'm not one to go around breaking dogs bones but it will never get the chance to bite me again I'll bust it up by breaking its legs or spine with one hard choke slam to the solid concrete.
Anyone ever sued for dog bites? How much did you get etc?........

If one of them ever ran towards me in attack mode, and I had my wits about me, I'd not hesitate to give it a full force kick, wherever the kick lands.

And surely that would be justifiable self-defense.

If it was medium to large size, eg labrador size or bigger, then I think any human would have difficulty fighting off one of those, if it was in some kind of frenzy.

Unless the human is very skilled in self defense and has very quick reactions.

A long heavy sturdy stick or metal pole would obviously tip the balance way over in favour of the human.
