🌟🌟 Social 🌟🌟 Gibberings ver. CCXIX - "what's new, c*nty chops?"

Never used Vinted tbh, I assume because stuff is classed as "Vintage" the sellers will toss on an extra £10.
I am a man who wears clothes mostly for the reason if I don't I will be arrested for Nudity, if I can get 3 simple white, Cotton t-shirts off the Market for £10 I am all over it, you'll never see me in Primark buying a single t-shirt for £10 when I can go to the local Market & get 3 for the same price.
Nah it's just a catchy name is all it's more like eBay than the kinds of vintage clothing store you get on high streets. I think a lot of what gets sold on the platform is just unwanted gifts that people are looking to flip in a hurry. I've gotten something like three pairs of converse through vinted which were still in the box with tags and near to half the price they'd be new.

Probably not the best if you're just after cheap and cheerful tshirts you can get for a fiver at the market but if you can get some bargains on branded stuff and it's great for shoes coats etc.

I like to find bargain Pro Keds, but there aren't usually many pairs available in this country.

I got a really weird pair of Converse once; they had 'CPA' embroidered on them. CPA is Christ Presbyterian Academy, which is a US College basketball team!

What they were doing in Europe - and in British sizing - was unknown. Possibly a factory fuck up.

I'm all about converse. Get some converse.

Or crocks. The ladies love a man in socks and crocks.
I'm probably too old to be wearing Converse now, but I tried a pair on a long time ago, and could not get over how extremely thin, unpadded, uncushioned, flat, and uncomfortable the soles were, with no arch support at all. I watched something on youtube recently with someone talking about this and a possible solution, but I think I'll stick to Asics or Adidas next time i buy new casual and comfortable footwear, that is also fashionable at the same time. Not that I'm very concerned about being fashionable. Far from it. But the people that are, can treat you slightly different, if you're wearing decent, up to date, name brand stuff.

It's all very shallow of course, and possibly being neurodivergent adds to my not caring too much about that sort of thing.

Asics are for people who actually run. So I'm an adidas man when it comes to normal trainers.

There are plenty of fiftysomethings in Converse, you know? Quality is nothing like the old ones, but the Chuck Taylor 70s are almost there.

Like I said, I prefer the Pro Keds aesthetic, but they don't really appear much here. My last two pairs are wearing away after much love.

Asics do also do non-running purely casual wear trainers.

I may look at converse again, but I think I've decided they are not for me.

I'd never buy a pair of Asics for casual wear just as I'd never use a tractor on the motorway.

But fair enough, if it's not your thing it's not your thing. You have plenty of classic adidas styles to choose from.

Yeah the majority of Asics do seem to be designed for running, and I can't currently find any purely casual ones, other than the ones I'm wearing right now. And they have always been extremely soft and comfortable, but quite hard wearing at the same time.

They definitely do walking 'shoes' too, and I'm sure they'd also be very comfortable for day to day use.

To be fair, the ergonomics, durability and comfort are probably far better than my battered Sambas. So if I was to go out to do serious walking (more than a handful of miles) they look like they'd be a decent bet.

Just don't like the look! Yeah, shallow.

Facts! I do kinda like the aesthetic of Converse… but the comfort level is truly appalling. And they disintegrate within a couple months at best ime.

I’m not too precious about trainers but am currently rocking a rather snazzy pair of what @Sadie refers to as “Dewy Grass” coloured Adidas.

You CANNOT go wrong with classic Chucks!

Converse and Adidas do have a special place in my heart.

I just noticed that my Asics have a "Gel Lyte" branding on them, and after looking that up, it brings up the following:

It seems the range is much reduced now, and doesn't look anywhere near as good.. Last time I went trainer shopping in a huge city center store there were several more non running/non hiking, but just casual Asics trainers to choose from. And they all looked better than those in the link. Maybe they have headed in a different direction since I bought them, or maybe the city centre store knows how to acquire the casual range.

It is time I bought some new ones. Maybe I'll get round to it before the current ones end up looking like an an old-school Tramp's shoes.

The more restrained 'fashion' models probably didn't sell, as that market really belongs to adidas, Reebok and Nike. So they concentrated on the performance based ones instead.

I do see some horrible looking trainers when I'm out and about, or even at work. That blazer / suit and trainer combo is always the worst, and it's still going strong.

You're probably right, and that is disappointing if true, as I was really hoping to get another pair of Asics, due to their looks, comfort, and durability.

But everything I've seen online recently does not look very appealing, on the style front.

That aspect seems to have been thrown out of the window. :\

I'd probably choose these if I was in a solid walking regime. They look alright. I'd have to have a pair of Sambas or Converse to change into though, if I was going somewhere I wanted to impress somebody. Which isn't often these days.

Yeah I agree that those look alright, quite discrete and not really going to attract any attention.

Equinox today (this evening).

I'd been looking for a document that I'd stashed 'safely', the only problem being that was eleven years and several house moves ago, and most of my stuff is books in boxes, with the odd cache of hoarded documents. So I needed to find a 'safe' place in piles of envelopes, mostly containing shit I don't need, and which hadn't been sorted in nearly a decade. Ex-girlfriend's P60 from 2002? What would I ever need that for?

I'd more or less given up after searching the most likely piles, but I did find a photograph of my grandmother, who's been dead 37 years now. I'd forgotten I even had it.

Of course, I sat down for one last go at the 'definitely not' pile of documents and pulled it straight out of an envelope.
