Gibberings episode 0x000000c6(?) -- No in outs or butts about it. Anal fissure!

Received a letter today in an envelope marked 'HM Revenue & Customs'. Upon opening, it was a letter from my local council threatening me that I could be fined £80 unless I register to vote by 13th August. I don't vote and have no desire to vote. At the same time, i cannot afford a fuckin fine at the moment. Does anyone know if it is a legal requirement to be on the electoral register, or is this an empty threat from a Government wanting to keep tabs on its citizens?

A quick mooch round shows that it looks like you have to register even if you don't intend to vote but I'd give em a bell about it anyway.

Intended to do nothing today but somehow ended up doing the opposite and cleaning the entire house so that's good I guess! Just fed the lizard and handed him over to sit with my girlfriend so just a case of waiting until he inevitably shits on her now.

Empty threat. IIRC we had a gobby bitch persistently turning up on the doorstep of my last UK house harassing us poor innocent drug fiends about not having registered.

Then letters kept coming, so in the end we selected a few names from past tenants' mail and filled the form in with those. Didn't have a peep afterward. In hindsight that's almost certainly illegal and fraudulent, so I don't recommend you do it, but it will work if you do.

Thanks Snolly, guess I could have done this myself, but I have a total distrust of all officialdom. That link you provided quotes a fine of £1000, my letter says £80. That's some discrepency, which makes me think that it's all empty threats when it comes down to it :\ However, I have no wish to put it to the test, so I suppose I'll comply like the model citizen I am ;) Anyway, I've avoided it for 20 odd years now, so my rebellion here is done :)

Complete empty threat.

In 6th form I did some work experience at the NI Assembly and in the local constituency offices. One day I had to go out with their electoral registration officer ( a created position so that the particular MLAs could hire more of their family in the office ) and I did the rounds with him as he visited houses where someone wasn't registered to vote. He told them of the possible fine and I quizzed him about it, told him I didn't think any judge would uphold the prosecution of your average Joe for not registering to vote.

I was 18 at the time and he went through the form with me to register. A couple of years later, and election comes around, and I find out I'm not even registered!

It's so weird cos they don't seem to do anything to tell you it's mandatory, at least in my experience. When I lived in a shared house I moved in first and the guy came round asking and it was more like a door to door thing so when he asked who else lived there I was like 'no one' cos at that point they didn't. Never saw him again but I assume they never got letters. If he'd said it was mandatory I'd have given him their names (no I wouldn't) but yeah was just like another door to door charity thing or survey round by us.

Ha, good one :)

Interesting, and is exactly how I pictured it.

Cheers folks...

I'm just about ready for bed, eaten an eight of nice weed, some chocolate and had six cabs of beer. Plus it's half past midnight.

But the neighbours spastic rooster just woke up and evidently thinks it's dawn. Cunt better shut up or I'm having chicken soup for breakfast.

It's not real potent, but I'd expect to be a bit spun soon and lazy and relaxed tomorrow:)

Normally I have a smoke, but a bunch of people who work with me as their boss are staying here tonight and don't need any gossip about funny smells and red eyes. . .

Cannae believe how dead it is in here. Used to have many a drug ramble going on here at this time on a Sunday morning. This was prime time!

Maybe I'm not the only one who's been feeling like Freud's wet dream recently.

Doesn't only mean your mother. It's an unintentional error in speech which can reflect/reveal subconscious feeling. Have never really gotten the Freuds wet dream thing meaning.

Good morning all. Hope everyone has a nice Sunday.

Met this girl for the first time today, as conversations continued it later transpired, she is racist, hates anything artistic, and that all disabled children should be put down when born. She seemed sound till she said all that. CYA
