Of course consuming more than you use will lead to weight gain - sorry Evey, bit of a mood and was being pedantic. I've done the whole eating disorder / amphetamine abuse thing so just struck a nerve. I can drop weight so quickly but with me being tall I start to look pretty ill if I drop a stone or more. I try to hover around the 95/100 kg (14 / 15 stone) - it suits my build.

The thing is this device came from nowhere - it was just a random chat with mates that we had know for a few years. We were all having a 'shot' because if you put it on your biceps and the other person started it you would do this random 'Robotic' twitch. If the intensity was turned up it actually hurt, but it was funny because you were having a mini fit - hard to explain.

When it was 'On' the person getting shocked was unable to stop it or speak (depending on the pulse setting) - the other people looking on thought it was hilarious so would fuck about with the pulse settings :D. MDMA and getting electrocuted for the win.

Yea i heard their not going to give housing benefit to 18-21 thats awful.

Also they're cutting ESA SAME AS JSA. That means if disabled wish to try work; it goes wrong n they have to go on ESA they lose over £100 a fortnight. They're actually stopping people trying to get jobs who generally want to work. With Labour they had the 56 n 104 linking rules so people felt safer seeking employment.

I'm really anxious over all this tbh it's one of the reasons I went back on antidepressants.

I don't think people are going to take this lying down.

Edit: one of the workers at the substance misuse place said Tories stopped sanctions before the election to try n get votes.
Also if people want food parcels they're only allowed 3 in 6 months so what the hell happens to people on sanctions?

Am I getting paranoid or do the media have a hate campagne against people on benefits? All the programmes of late, on channel 5, n listen to the way the presenter phrases things - to make working people hate the unemployed n to cause a divide.

You're not being paranoid this time. The media really are running a hate campaign against benefit claimants.

This is part of a wider picture in which we are being groomed not to feel any empathy or sympathy towards those worse-off than ourselves; everything that happens to them is their own fault, and if they only worked a little bit harder and didn't waste what little money they had on nice things, then they would not be so poor.

I remember Shambles mentioning something about those kind of schemes in his town. He also mentioned they will often guarantee a place for life afaia.

The "first past the post" voting system used in the UK is deeply flawed. Say you have a constituency of 1000 voters, with candidate A who is standing on a platform of beheading every kitten in the land; candidate B who opposes the beheading of kittens but believes that pubs should tart serving beer in litres rather than pints; and candidate C who also opposes the beheading of kittens but believes that 568 is a perfectly sensible number of millilitres for a beer glass. Now A gets 350 votes, B gets 330 votes and C gets 320 votes. Even though the majority of the voters are aghast at the prospect, the ailurophobes win.

If the election had been conducted using the Single Transferrable Vote, it is likely that more of C's supporters would have given their second preference to B than A, on the basis that they would rather suffer the indignity of beer in litres than beheading kittens. C being the weakest candidate is eliminated and their votes are redistributed according to second preferences. Some won't have expressed a second preference, so their ballot papers are placed in a discard pile. As soon as the 501st ballot paper lands on B's pile, they are mathematically certain to have won the election, however the remaining papers be marked, and so B is duly elected.

Even the constituency system is somewhat flawed. Suppose there are just three constituencies, each with 1000 voters. Constituencies 1 and 2 return party A, even although the majority of those constituents voted for B or C. Constituency 3 returns party C by a near-landslide. Party A has two MPs, party C has only one MP. Yet if you added up all the votes, the overall majority of voters might well have voted for C (who already has over 900 votes from constituency 3 alone, and needs only 1001 votes to be certain of winning). The paradox here is that voter sentiment is not evenly distributed among constituencies; rather, the voters for C are concentrated into one constituency, where their votes go towards someone already certain to win that seat. (And just to make it interesting, it's entirely possible, if we were using transferrable votes within constituencies, that B might have got in; even although C would have been elected by disregarding constituencies and using transferrable voting on a nationwide count.
