I do that because explaining my diet to people is boring/annoying/intrusive and generally leads to more questions which makes me feel extremely uncomfortable. Come to think of it, this is mostly true in the work situation. All my friends know the intricacies of my vegetarianism/pescetarianism.

I understand how that is bizarre but it's just easier and I get why some would take the time to explain properly. Especially if they feel passionate about it.

apart from the fact it takes 3 seconds to say either
a- you are a vegetarian
or b- you eat fish
c- you eat meat and fish

getting people to understand what a pescetarian is, would probably take more than 3 seconds , however i get the feeling that its a moot point in your case and most of the people you probably meet in real life communicate with you by nodding their heads up or down and not by actually engaging in chat
