anyone been to Vietnam recently ? I'm looking at Hanoi, Sapa Valley and then maybe Halong Bay for a couple of days near the end of my trip. Any information would be great - OTC looks pretty lax.


Did we not have a EADD travel thread somewhere? Would this be better off moved to its own thread incase anyone else is looking for the same information in a few weeks / months?

Create yer own thread yo :) We may have had one in the past (or two or three) but it's likely lost in the sands of time - Take upon you your flaming sword of thread-making ;)

I've been there in the summer of 2000, so it's been quite a while, had an amazing baguette in Hanoi just as good as in Europe.

I know you like eating, seriously if you find yourself in the south, stay a for a night at the Rex Hotel in Saigon the breakfast there is the best I've ever had anywhere, they had these soft dumplings they were almost transparent and had prawn in them, amazing, so good. There was so much choice, so many different types of food available.

As for drugs, at the time I was in my teens and went there with my folks, but as a dreadlocked 17 year I had no problem smoking weed in Nha Trang and on an island called Isle de la Balene(Whale Island) which is just in front of Nha Trang, I remember being offered other stuff several times, which I turned down as at the time I was a purist pothead(silly me :) )
 
I will add though that two of my mates got their cash & cards stolen / robbed when over there.
Thankfully they managed to get some cash and make it back to Blighty.
Just be careful ;)

Have seen that. Is called "The Blue Dolphin" or some such thing, no? The prison, I mean. Not exactly a bed of roses is it? The Heil would fukkin love it :D
 
^its a great film and I really enjoyed watching it a couple of times.

Re my Vietnam questions - I created a thread to keep any information in one place just to make it easier to find if anyone else searches for it. It's not set in stone yet - It looks amazing and I have fancied it for a while but I quite fancy Thailand again.

^ I would be so fucking paranoid living over there, when I stayed those two months in the UAE I propped up my professional appearance, was fairly worried of being associated with the wrong lot, keep your nose clean buddy, especially since it doesn't sound you'd be able to buy your way out. Fucked up place that is.

In all honesty though I do believe that violent criminals deserve this sort of treatment, all drugs should be legal and no one should be doing time for this, but if you rape, rob or kill and there's overwhelming evidence then what pontifex described should be what you get, no rehabilitation, no warm meals and no comforts just coackroaches climbing up your ass creak and regular beatings.

Nice one, been trying to think of summat to watch. Seen it but was in a sufficiently altered state that I remember very little.

Anyways, morning all <3 Less humid today thank fuck, and I slept like a baby. Would have been perfect if I hadn't been woken up by dreaming I was in a plummeting lift. Still got to go into uni though, just finished my module choices. Though could mail them in but I fear that would be kinda lazy as shit seeing as I live a 20 min walk away.
