I've been meaning to say, congratulations to andgy2777 for managing to sign in without the other two/three alt accounts you have (in nearly the same name) showing up for a change.

I concur, SHM. Vaguely like how it might have been living in the immediate aftermath of Gutenberg, perhaps. Assuming you could read. And/or write. And could afford to buy books/pamphlets. Or had access to a press.

Mugz: If that's all 12 Step programmes were I'd have no problem with 'em. It ain't though. There's the other side. All the religious nutjobbery, brow-beating and guilt-tripping. There's very good reasons why they have a 2% success rate compared with 5% for no support and anything up to 50%+ in some secular, non-12 Step based programmes. The problem I have with 12 Steps is that it actively hurts most people's chances of changing their behavour. But if you're one of the 2% good luck to ya. You may well be. Worth a try anyway, I'm sure :)<3

There's been practically no mention at all of religion in the groups I've been too. GOD is a powerful words and people can choose to interpret it as religion or just nature, that being their higher power, or many other things. I've got my own spiritual views and I'm sticking with them at the moment unless I hear something else that changes my perspective. I will never believe in a big man sitting in the clouds watching over us all and planning our daily lives though.

PS. Just changed my sheets and then lay down back in them, it's great to lay down for the first time in freshly cleaned sheets isn't it? :) I love it

Plans for the rest of the day include eating some sort of mini roast my dad is going to cook later, one with sausages as the main meat I may add, it's all about the road veggies pretty quickly done in a baking dish, Then I'm gonna do some more work on my screenplay, and then I might see if I can hit up a meeting or just have some general online chitter chatter with some people, as my friends are busy this evening, or might just lay down on the sofa with my dad and watch and old film :)

Aw cute, are you the big spoon or little spoon :)

Good luck with NA mugz, even if they are just a cannon fodder new audience for regaling with tales of your latest venture ;)

I want to start a campaign to get Sham out of where he's living and back into the real world, or at least get him a washing machine and a bed :D I know I'm imposing my ideals of you sham so i don't mean to cause offence but you've got shit loads to offer and it feels like you're wasted tucked away up there :( I hope your wrist feels better soon too.

I'm down with this. Everyone should have a bloody bed to sleep in. Especially Sham!

Hehe. <3 that album, Squeegee. That song always did have a certain amount of resonance with me :D

And I thought I'd lived in small towns before moving here. Didn't think places like this actually existed outside of the Dark Age subsistence farming era 8(

Actually, this is a very long way from being small by local standards. Is bordering on being a hub of activity. All relative innit. And here is relatively shite :D

Indeed. Where you are is buzzing compared to my locale. Having said that I have transport, which makes an unimaginable difference.

Hasn't always been so though...years ago when lived in a proper remote place we didn't have transport...used to have to hitch to take my lad to school...then back again to pick him up.

@ badandwicked - councils/housing assocs provide you with sweet fa bar the outer shell of the house/flat or whatever. Not even carpets as a rule - certainly not washing machines!

In other news had a wicked mushy trip t'other night....400 twixt two of us...me first trip in 10 years...immense!

^ i know but I thought they provided plumbing for a w/machine, especially if you don't live near a laundrette and have no transport. All you need really is a connector to the water and a hose for drainage. Loads of w/machines on freecycle, just so damn heavy.

There's nothing wrong with a mattress on the floor. First world problems. Seriously.

No theres nothing wrong with it, I agree, but I imagine most BLers have a bed. Do you? And I'm sure Sham won't mind me saying he's not 18 any more, aches and pains and quality of sleep can be really affected by mattresses on floors. A futons a futon and a beds a bed, but a mattress on the floor is neither here nor there. There comes an age when roughing it stops being fun and starts being tiring and painful which can affect state of mind.

I've seen Urbain's set up, it's actually rather a nice little set up. I often wondered if there was a frame under the mattress, like some super cool invisible frame to give the impression of a mattress on the floor but with added support too. I think a mattress on the floor situation is nothing to be frowned upon at all. It's how I'd choose to go about it if when I finally move out, beats having to buy a big bedframe which will cost a fortune, even the budget ones.

Yes I have a bed (and boy, how did I not see that one coming ;) ). But tbh, I do so in deference to my girlfriend. I slept on a mattress, without a bed, for many years of my life. But having a bed isn't a necessity for any life enhancing thing.

When I was in Laos we stayed in a jungle hut by a river, in a village. The woman who owned her jungle huts was getting rich charging £1 a night per person. In a village that operated without a money economy. Trust me, that's rich. So while we were there she redeveloped her house. Knocked the fucker down in a day. Her only real possession was a sideboard, incongruent enough as it was in the jungle. I thought with this redevelopment shed surely be buying some 'things', starting with beds perhaps. Nope. She just turned her house round to face the other way. And they all continued to sleep on thin mattresses on the floor.

Cultural innit? But not a necessity.

Lol ok I sound like a spoilt princess now but i promise I'm not. I slept on a mattress on the floor for about 4 years and towards the end it was horrible but it was a crappy ancient mattress and I don't think 2 people trampling all over it helped much. Then we got a sprung base bed off Freecycle, no bed bugs thank fuck, and it changed my 1st world life ;) if Shams happy & well thats all that counts, i'll shut up now.

Shambles.. Have you thought about doing a Housing Association swap? Plenty of people dream of escaping to the country.

You seem a lot more grounded Mugz.. Its good to see.:)

Ha! I'm with you on getting away from here. That really is something I need to do. Washing machine would be pointless as I really couldn't use it cos I just don't have anywhere it could be used. Would have to be in the kitchen (assuming I have the necessary plumbing bobz there - no idea if that's the case) and there simply is no space. Ain't a bad sized flat really but the kitchen is pretty poky. Plus, I'd never use it cos of the amount of leccy they must use. I hadly have any clothes anyway so am fine doing 'em in the bath and drying on radiators :)

Mattress on the floor used to be fine until all the springs went and you wake up slashed half to the bone if you sleep on it now. Plus you're actually mostly sleeping on concrete due to lack of springs. Was murder on the back and I got fed up of being covered in cuts and scratches so is actually just a dumping ground for "stuff" now. I actually kip on the sofa these days. Bed would be great. But sure one will happen along one day. Am easily contended me.

And don't worry about "imposing your ideals" on me. Trust me, I don't live here out of choice by any stretch. Am just stuck here is all. Really ain't easy to move when you're on the sick and with a Housing Association. Unless you have somewhere to move to and good reason to be there you basically can't as far as I can tell :\
