I think the same applies for any genre not really appreciated by the parents ... it's usually blamed for rebellion of any kind. Rock n Roll, dance, metal etc
I used to babymind the kid across the road ... 12 year old kid. I introduced him to Alice Cooper and metal and he was instantly hooked. His parents have blamed me for what they perceive to be his general spiral into being what they consider 'a dropout'. He went on to be a metal DJ, and didn't go to UNI like they'd planned.
I took him to see Alice for his first gig when he was about 13 I think. He was already racking up the inches on his grebo hair by then too.
