Sam: I'd actually forgotten that I had a pretty dim view of you when you first washed up 'pon the shores of EADD. But looking back... always were a feisty fuck werentcha? :D
I think 'feisty fuck' is charitable: 'argumentative little shit' would be a little more truthful and accurate. :D
Though to be fair, my arrival (or emergence as a regular poster) did more-or-less coincide with the build up to your Lost Weekend To End All Lost Weekends. And you did try to hold back from judging, were otherwise welcoming and agreed with me as and when I was making a reasonable and constructive contribution not likely to cause / perpetuate a shitstorm.
Then you weant AWOL for a loooooonnnnnnng time.
I think it took a combination of several mods (Evad, Kate and Whoremoaning come to mind) to nudge me through PMs and through public posts, as if to say "we agree with 95% of your views and we like having you around, but stop making us have to wade through pages and pages of bitching, ta".
I was never really that personally offensive though; I'd just criticise people's opinions and points of view. Then persist with pointless bickering for hours, to the point of irritating even those who were sympathetic to my cause.
Creating a silly caricature persona that only people of a certain age and subcultural background would 'get' didn't help either; in fact, I still think it colours the image that carious people have of me, but it's my own doing. I was going through a weird time back then.
I
did buck my ideas up though, hence the lack of infractions and I think that's why I was considered as a mod (something I'd never have thought about normally). Well, that and the fact that I'd learned to deal with widespread disdain and hostility already too.
Plus it was Evad who did the arm-twisting, so it was done expertly. Can't ask him if it's okay to jack in now, can I?
I had a great team to ease me into the role, which you had a lot of involvement in assembling, plus a forum that bore the hallmarks of your positive influence. So for that too, I owe you a big thanks.
A lot of things happened after that on the good ship EADD (to say the least), but they're in the dim and (increasingly - thank fuck) distant past. Including my drunken spamming of the forum with drivel about cocks and sexual encounters with posh girls that I've already reeled out several times before.
What's important is your recent presence as a poster and a character who very much earns the 'Crew' title through what you put into the forum. It's helped immensely at a time where we have various staff members experiencing real-life stresses and recovering from a period when logging on was something you did with trepidation.
It's been a pleasure to see as well as a real help, and that deserves a mention. It means a lot to us all. Thanks Shammy.
PS: Wanna be Bobby Beausoleil? Or Tex Watson?
