Gibberings CXLVII: Best ROA for Berocca?

My fuckin car insurance have gone ahead and renewed my policy with an annual lump sum fee. I wanted to ask them to change it to direct debits, but theyve allready done it and it cant be changed. They sent an email to an account i hardly ever use. Ive asked them to untick the automatically renew box (cheecky cunts i never asked them to do that) and to send me a letter by post next time.

At this rate Im gonna be like that bloke on The One Show the other week, he has lived in his house for 3 years without electric or gas. It can be done. Is it illegal to burn log fires in city houses these days ?

I know it was once oulawed but that law may have changed. Im quite serious and I may start going out collecting fallen tree branches and stuff to burn in the fireplace, though it is currently boarded off and sealed up. Still very tempted to remove the cover and seal, try a small fire, and see if the chimney works to funnel out the smoke, and doesnt merely leave me with a room full of smoke.

That's what my dad smoked all his (short) life, first cigarette I ever touched.

You mean as in the city center?? I assume if youve got a fireplace, your allowed a fire. Come and have some of my logs if you want :D, but I do have a wood stock that could fill half a garage, someones a bit of a wood lover, what else is he going to do at the weekends??
 
right fuck it the chimney seal is coming off, and an experimantal small fire is gonna be attempted to see if the smoke goes up the chimney and out the top, or if its somehow been rendered unusable and just leaves me with a room full of smoke. If there is some other caps or whatnot in the chimney that i cant see or access then I'll forget it. But if this works then i can potentially save a fortune over the winter. £1500 is now the average annual cost to run a house on electric and gas. Thats simply unnafordable on income support. No wonder people turn to crime. Not that Im condoning it.

I remember when we lived out in the countryside we used to get wagon loads of logs dropped off for us. One of my cousins went at those logs like a psycopathic axe murderer but he was a s strong as an oxe and nearly always got them split with 1 strike of the axe. Everyone had to run for cover as they thought it was best to leave him to it, as pieces of log chunks were flying like missiles all around him.

We used to have an ancient Oak tree at the end of our garden, one winter storm uprooted it, it was really sad to see my step Dad getting the chainsaw out to it, making it into circles suitable for log chopping. You cant be sentimental in the countryside though, you have to grab free fuel if its there, otherwise it'll just be food for beatles and grubs.

Yep without a doubt, some people i work with were smoking fake GV, the colors were slightly lighter and it smelt odd. and was harsh. nasty shit. theyre smoking fake cutters now, its hard to spot its fake though. i only smoke over the weekend, probs around 20, so i usually buy over the counter and it lasts for ages

Ooooo, I'd forgotten about that place - it was a brilliant record shop. I bought some mighty fine shoegaze tapes from that place. (Spent quite a bit of time in Wales as a teenager.) 8)

Nope, a lot of Manchester is a smokeless zone. I know this because in a previous house we had an Illegal Wood Stove. :D
 
did your solicitor tell you that, or did you get a knock or fine from the council for using it ?

Under the Clean Air Act, the whole of Manchester has been designated a Smoke Control Area since 1985 - this was to improve local air quality.

It is an offence for an occupier of a premise within a Smoke Control Area to allow emissions of smoke from a chimney, unless 'authorised fuel' is used.

What a fuckin joke. Have they ever cycled down Princess Parkway or Oxford Road if they are really concerned about pollution. They should get all those filthy old disgusting busses of the road for a start.

Neither! I just knew that we were in a smoke control area, but as the wood burner was pretty efficient it didn't churn out loads of thick smoke. There are quite a few houses with log fires around South Manc and they don't seem to get any hassle, either.
 
oh shit, maybe i should have just done it without asking the coucil, ive emailed them now. They might 'keep an eye on me' or do 'spot checks now'. Maybe that was a better idea that just doing it, and then some cunt reporting me and ending up getting fined £100s of pounds. I can see more and more people wanting to do this with the extortinaiate costs of the power companies. They keep saying "wholesale costs are rising" But they are making billions of pounds of profits. Fucking cunts, how can they get away with it. :!

I dont think its fair that people arent allowed to burn logs in their own homes. We are being stitched up again. Fuckin industrial companies produce millions of times more smoke and pollution than household heating fires, yet they are allowed to do it. This fuckin sucks. Almost enough for me to want to leave the city to live somewhere where i can have a fuckin log fire if i want to. You know with energy costing £1500 a year it really is worth thinking about (when you have no fuckin income anyway)

If its an offence to allow smoke emissions through a chimney then i could emit them from somewhere else then lol.

Nope, but they make an okay relaxing herby tea. Just watch the passion flower as it's a MAOI so not great to have before clubbing. :)

And I feel your pain, am on rations myself.
 
£1500 is meant to be the average family cost per annum. Ive not worked mine out tbh.

PTCH I sometimes make tea out of pure Valerian root, it doesnt smell very nice, but it tastes delicious if you make it quite mild, and it does have mild sedative effects. I might have a cuppa now actually, to keep me warmer and more relaxed at the same time.
