These were the fags you bought in my teens if you wanted to show off. Not that there was much choice in East Manchester:

You got to enjoy the 'luxury' of watching Peter Stuyvesant's name (emblazoned down the side) slowly turning into ash. The packaging was a little different, but that was the brand.

Never saw the YSL ones taking off, but I can imagine them being pretty popular with some of the twats I've known and loved.
 
I was mostly a silk cut bird when i was young and had loads of money.. Occasional Benson and hedges if necessary but they tended to give me a sore throat.

Ive got to give up again. I've got a lot of crap on my chest. It creates quality gobs which i'll kinda miss but its doing me no favours. Its a thorn in my side. :(

Oi.. i couldnt find the its a knockout thread or whatever it was called. Someone called me a bunny boiler! I take umbrage to that remark!

Like I said, I'm not sure how much government / Big Tobacco scaremongering is behind the reports of counterfeit tobacco's elevated levels of nasty stuff, but it's enough to make you think twice.

Fuck knows, i've had a few pouches during hard times, but i know plenty who smoke it regularly. Even more who buy the 200 for £27.50 packs of jin lings straights

After smoking a few packs of them, my chest hurt when i breathed.. so most likely not good at all. £3.50 for a pack of viceroys which were tasty and £4.50 for legit marlborto though :D, and again i know people who smoke 40 a day of them jin lings with no massive health problems from em..yet

Not good at all. Still, the price is unbelievably cheap and they look almost kosher, so you can see why they're massive sellers.

I only smoke cigs when I'm not smoking weed, so I smoke less than ten on an average day. I can imagine that someone who smokes 40 a day would have pretty hardened lungs and expect to be wheezing all the time anyway. So maybe they just put any discomfort down to that.

Scary to think of what 20+ years of 40 Jin Lings a day could potentially do to you though!
 
Got some acid yesterday and it's a nice day so going to pop one under the tongue. Also got a few red Superman pills which look sexy as fuck.
 
i smoked a few packs of those long thin brown cigs when i was around 15. The piss taking for looking such a ponce stopped me buying any more even though i quite liked them. I cant remember what they were called. Any old timers from 1985 remember ?

I thought the best show off cigs were the french ones like Gitanes or Gallouse, or any uncommon brand like Players Number 5 or was in number 6 8(. I chain smoked those french cigs at Glastonbury as some chick was flogging them at £2 a pack, and i was on speed for practically the whole weekend. Fuck i was so naive back then, i remember openly sharing a bag of speed with a couple of mates, then noticed that some coppers were watching. For some reason they didnt take any action. They must have thought we looked like a nice harmless group, or they couldnt be arsed with the extra work and paperwork. Fuckin lucky as hell.

I dint like that as a student EVERYBODY somked Marlboro Lights, they were my favourite brand, but i ended up looking like a student stereotype.

At least I just had to get a bus into the centre of town, or find a newsagent that still considered itself to be a proper 'tobacconist'. Kids these days just don't know how hard it was to be hip in bygone times.

it was also the only place to get a decent haircut. I lterally lived way out in 'the sticks' and Shrewsbury or Aberystwyth were the nearest large towns than had proper tobacconist shops. Amazingly one of my small towns a bit closer to home had an excellent record shop with all the latest John Peel stuff for sale. The best record shop in Wales was called Cob Records a 3 hours North drive away in Portmadoc. I made that trip only once to exchange some records id grown tired of and get some new stuff. You city guys dont know how lucky you are (in some of the ways, like ive mentioned)

I used to have to buy cigs in packs of 200, and people commented on me "jesus you are a heavy smoker" etc. Not realising that rural living means you have to really stock up when you go to the towns in the area, 16, or 24 miles away for the best local town.

Yeah, I see what you mean. It was weird though; east Manchester (especially at the time) could almost be completely detached from the city and you wouldn't know the difference. I suppose it was a poverty / deprivation thing, but somehow the city centre was like a different world entirely. So even though you can see skyscrapers on the horizon, you don't really feel like you're part of it.

It wasn't till I'd left Manchester entirely and returned to it that I found out there were loads of people I could relate to on some 'subcultural' level. I suppose many inner-city kids in circumstances like those end up with a similar outlook.

Still, you're right - I could just hop on a bus and be in town before I knew it. So that's where we spent most of our free time if we could help it.
 
I kind of feel like I missed out; was all L&Bs and Regals when I was a kid. Once I smoked a Gauloise. It tasted rank.

Have you fukin tried the snide stuff ? Speaking as a dedicated smoker who is known to on occasion smoke his own butts.

That stuff is fukin brutal . No scaremongering from Govt. needed it's rank i dread to think what is init

I started out on Regal just because they were the strongest cigs that were readily available. Plus everyone else smoked Embassy at my college, so I had to be awkward.

There were loads of little snide brands that disappeared as well - I remember regularly being given my tenner's worth of soapbar in an empty 'Kings' box. They looked like the worst shit imaginable; packaging straight out of 1975.

Oh yeah, I've had snide Golden Virginia on a few occasions. I know how rank it is.

I just know that not every 'black market' pouch is counterfeit, y'know? Whereas the scare stories would lead you to believe it's all snide.
