The truly terrifying thing is that despite having never seen one of these things I somehow still [k]now exactly the tropes you speak of they're so embedded in modern pop culture. And when you consider how removed from modern pop culture I am anyway this is doubly terrifying 8(

You are a lying sack of shit if you pretend to have never watched a single rom-com. I don't believe that for one second.

Everyone in the world has seen one. Either deliberately (in my case; certainly), or by osmosis (maybe; in your case).

You can't kid a kidder, my dear Shambles. <3

Thank you n I will remove my post I made to you last night.

Think you may struggle to do that... ;)

One essential difference between moderating and memberating is that moderating involves having to do stuff as well as decide what to do. This absolutely does not make staff any better than anybody else in any way - simply means we have to justify whatever decisions we make and make them a reality no matter how tricky it can be to try to avoid stepping on peoples' toes. Can't please all of the people all of the time but can back up any decisions made with all the reasons and factors that went into making any decision and - for better or for worse - most of that stuff is not made public knowledge so can appear to be somewhat arbitrary or biased for those looking in from outside without all the relevant information.

Hmm... From that list, I saw Annie Hall years ago at college (wouldn't have thought that would be counted as a rom-com but seems I was wrong) and have seen Shawn of the Dead (obviously) but again think it kinda stretches the genre definition to call it a rom-com in any meaningful sense. Other than that I have Black Cat, White Cat and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind in my collection but so far unwatched (and again, not titles I'd really associate with rom-coms).

I'm sure it is - as you suggest - osmosis with me. A kinda metaviewing via the medium of only having seen a scant smattering of films featuring elements of rom-com parody. Most genres can be summed up expertly with a good parody but - in the case of Hollywood rom-coms - I really don't see there being much payoff to digging any deeper than knowing the gist of it as even fans note the remarkable excess of cliche within the genre and is just not a genre I see enough unjoyment in to wallow in "ironic" viewing of.

I do have my weakness too, of course. I'm a sucker for drossy horror films - especially of the 70s and 80s - which are equally as formulaic and braindead. I'm not being snooty about Hollywood rom-coms for being shite - I'm very partial to shite myself - just not my kinda shite so I have no reason to watch 'em and therefore never have. It's not just Hollywood rom-coms, there are vast swathes of pop culture that completely pass me by unnoticed and unmourned.

Delivered with happiness and rollsabout =D Pure cute, never seen it before 8o HAAAAAAAaaaaaa<3

This is fucking hilarious. It's so unlikely, it's like something out of a rom-com (starring Jennifer Aniston).

I am imagining Don Luigi anxiously hanging around the arrivals gate, then running in slow motion towards Jennifer Aniston (gardenlane), after the parents have somehow engineered a reunion between them, with both parties realising that they "complete each other" despite their differences, and then they hug.

Cut to SammyG in a different city, bitterly realising that he missed his chance. He was too much of a bad boy for Jennifer/GL, and he sits back with his whiskey, shaking his head, belatedly accepting the fact that Don was the right man all along.

Fade to black.

This made me laugh very heartily =D

I do like one Jennifer Aniston movie.

Are you n Don in a relationship then?

Evey

I don't think that's the legal definition that was used by my solicitor :|
