I never said I'd varnished it or put leather on it, said they were the plans, I had to cut the original branch in half, then whittle the wood down to a much thinner size which took ages, I can work on the shape of the bit below the handle. It's unlikely he will ever use it anyway, will be the thought that counts, making a present is much better than buying one.

Mugz you haven't thinned that down one bit, if you had one wouldn't have been able to see quite clearly the knots in the stick still sticking out.
You could once you removed about an inch from it bend the top bit to a proper walking stick shape.
