Gibberings CVII - Bubbles are Comforting

Still awake, guess I need to pull an all nighter now as going to sleep is this time is going to be disastrous! I've been planning on eating since about midnight last night and haven't gotten round to that either. :\

Quitting smoking weed was the best thing for me, it was just making me tired and depressed and antisocial. Now I get stoned maybe once or twice a year, and it's ok as a stark contrast to not being stoned once in a while but I don't know how on earth I managed to do it every day for years. TBH I hardly take any drugs now, I don't even drink. Nicotine is my last remaining bad habit really, and I really regret getting hooked on it in my early 20's. Could have been worse though, at least I wasn't smoking 20 marly reds a day when I was 14.

The joys of day time TV, watching 'homes under the hammer' and there in a house which has the shower in the kitchen. Just in a wee corner next to the cooker. Seriously.

And that reminds me, I need a massive jobbie. And I could murder a packet of wine gums.

tl;dr

I need a phone, mines is broken. Debating whether just to buy a cheapo tenner brick of a phone from Tesco or buy an older smart phone, can get a 'Samsung Galaxy Y' new for £75, couple years old I think but my last phone was a much older Nokia so I reckon even if it's shit it will seem OK to me, anyone got one?

wow, anyone listening to PMQT? Cameron's going over the Hillsborough report. 164 police reports were altered.

from the Guardian live twitter/blog/report thingy ... sickening some of it really

Cameron says the families have long believed that there was an attempt by the authorities to misrepresent what happened. The families were right. There were briefings to the media, and they led to the Sun story attacking fans. Today's report says this information came from a Sheffield news agency that was reporting comments by police officers.

Some 164 police statements were amended, he says. Many removed comments attacking the police.

Officers carried out police national computer checks on the dead to impugn their reputation.

Blood tests were also taken from the dead to see if they had been drinking. This was unacceptable, he says. Drinking levels were normal for an event like this.

But there was no evidence that the government tried to conceal the truth.

One government briefing said the police had been close to deceitful. It said this was familiar.

what's the culpability of the police, retrospectively? All that generally happens tends to be a big fuck off list of what's been implemented since to 'assure' the public such an event cannot occur again, and the same mistakes wont happen again .. but they never address the problems of attitude and approach of the police, it's always procedurally based criticism without looking at the problems of intent and corroboration.

It's easy for the police to apologise for something that happened retrospectively and didn't happen on the current watch or current structure ... it makes it disingenuous and doesn't really address the pertinent issues. Culpability of individuals needs to happen for any apology to be considered genuine imo.

I can't wait to see what the sun's approach to reporting this will be all things considered. Their coverage of the News International inquiry was laughable

lol

and now we've got the Police being responsible for 'investigating' the original police report & performance. fucking tragic

[edit]
Cameron should be ashamed. It's up to the relevant police authorities whether they decide to take action against their own force for the altering of statements.

what nonsense

He said it in a sombre tone tho, and sounded sad at the tragedy occurring 8)

People don't hate on the police for no reason, they are cunts through and through. They do whatever they want and just abuse their greater knowledge of the criminal justice system and 'higher' standing in the community to get away with loads of shit. Surprisingly they are still better than the majority of the world's police force though!

Cameron should be strongly suggesting that they investigate, thereby leaving them no option really.

I understand the Govnt can't order the police to investigate given process and procedure, but he could strongly suggest it occur. He could also give assurance about a further investigation being 'fair' and possibly commit to it being audited independently, given the history of the case.

he's not doing any of that.

[edit]
They only do what they want because they're protected by procedure, especially when it comes to being able to choose if they investigate themselves or not, it's no surprise such decision making might be abused by the police. it can be avoided though, with direction from the govnt. that they choose not to, turns an obvious flaw into a fucking big gaping hole in the justice system

He should do this when they next fuck up, rather than restrospectively for something that they can never really solve or bring anyone to justice over. This is a total waste of tax payers money. We all already knew the police were bullshitting about the whole thing. We don't need to employ a bunch of people to tell us what we already know. Well, I don't, anyway.

This is a good point. The outcome of all of this is basically "Yes, the police were talking shite but nothing's actually going to happen. Oh, btw - sorry".
