I don't really see it as entitlement. It's just something which is available if I'm in dire need, and as I can purchase benzos whenever I wish, I'm not in dire need. I'd rather avoid using benzos or z-drugs entirely to be honest.

If sleep becomes a real problem then I'll let my GP / psychiatrist know, and they'll act accordingly. I'm not just going to rock up to the doctor's office and say "I can't sleep. Give me some benzos" though. Shit doesn't work like that if you have certain details on your medical records, y'know?

I'm with you on this one, Benzos and Z drugs arent long term solutions and IME just make matters worse in the long run, as does drinking yourself to sleep.

Doctors almost never provide Benzos for more than 2 weeks and then it's usually 2mg Diaz, I was scripted 5mg ones and Zolpidem for a bit but I was trying to get my drinking under control, I've refused Z drugs and Benzos from my GP since as you say you can get Benzos yourself and not have to go through that kind of hassle.

I've found Valerian root useful both for Benzo withdrawal and sleep, it's subtle but it does something and doesnt seem to have any side effects.

My strategy these days is to just get up, go downstairs and watch a bit of TV, go online and forget about sleep for a bit, it's the anguish of trying to get to sleep that I find more of a problem TBH.
 
After tryting ALL the sleep drugs, having been through two benzo tapers, trust me I've tried everything - but I have found that working during the day, eating well and getting some physical exercise like walking every day actually helps me sleep at night. That and having a clear conscience. ;) And not doing loads of stimulants.

My d&b addiction does keep me up some nights though.

Agreed, I work a good 9 hours or more a day but at present can't mange anything in the way of exercise, when I was walking the dog morning and evening things were better.

My stimulant usage is sporadic, but I'm pretty sure my years of use and a couple of years of daily benzo use havent helped in the long run, still can't go backwards.

Getting up when I can't sleep works pretty well and I cope quite well with only a few hours, getting worked up about it was half the battle for me

Yeah nothing worse than lying in bed for hours writhhing around thinking about stuff, if i cant sleep i get up and read the news for a bit or whatever till im tired.

Actually I tell a lie, I do take mirtazapine in the evenings and that helps a bit with sleep, so I'm cheating a little bit.

The less drugs in my life though, the better my sleeping is, on the whole.
 
I didnt get on with Mitrazipine, it might be OK now but at the time it made my derealisation worse, I felt like I was just about to come up on acid...but not in a good way.

I take amiltryptaline for a number of reasons which may help a little but it isnt the reason I take it, getting up is my best strategy, I can usually find something to do online ...even do a bit of work occasionally, time consuming stuff like graphics work or research
 
The only thing i dont like about mirtazapine is it makes me eat so much. No bad thing to be honest as I'm quite skinny, but feeling tired at 11pm and suddenly craving lots of food isnt good.

I actually take nicotinamide and a general B vitamin supplement. Doesn't seem to do any harm.
 
I am officially fucking sick of interviews.. 4 in a week, and the one I wanted I didn't get. Grar.

True that. I had that the other week when I was having trouble sleeping for no discernable reason. Until I gave up and got very stoned and was then just lying in bed thinking about cake, still unable to sleep.. :|
 
I suspect Amiltryptyline (I bet I've spelt that wrong) has made my weight go up, Vanlafaxine made it go down.

I might have a look at those other 2, like you say they do no harm, I do take a multivitamin but nothing specific.

Giving up the booze helped, I would go to sleep but then wake feeling like shit and anxious by 2am, really I wanted more booze but I have to drive to work so didnt give in to that.

Urgh the worsdt is when you are ltying in bed trying to sleep but start thinking about the bacon roll you will make for breakfast....

I dunno, I think I'd rather think about food than relationship/money/job woes.. ;)

Definitely, caught myself out a few times overusing benzos to get to sleep. luckily i dont often struggle that often with sleep apart from when stimmed

Ruminating is surely preferable to beerinating, what with the waking up to piss more frequently, can't be good for sleep quality.
