Gibberings CLXIII - Up All Night Shooting Cheese Balls

I'm sure the conversation will flow again, anyhow. We have some entertaining and informative posters around after all. It's at times like this you realise just how much the likes of Cornishman brought to the forum. Things were bound to drop off a bit.

Agreed. On all points. Several times now I've found myself missing Cornishman's posts. They were very much unique and really did liven the place up. Small consolation in knowing that it was very much appreciated by all at the time - and that he was aware of that too - and is not just hindsight or rosy-tinteds. There have been a number of regular posters who are no longer regularly posting for a number of reasons of late. We've lost far too many these last couple years - not all in the very final sense but several for assorted other reasons. It's perhaps no surprise that it's become a bit quiet and will no doubt take a while to pick up. It will pick up though - we've had periods of going through significant losses of regulars (usually not through them actually dying - not to the extent we've had recently) where it seemed EADD would remain a shadow of its former self but it's always gotten back on track with new members becoming regulars. I think we've lost a lot over a short period and will just take a while for newer members to swell the ranks and establish themselves as regular members clogging up Gibberings with suitable levels of actual gibber.

Spot on. And that's why I think of Facebook; a lot of very, very superficial 'interaction', and not so much of the tangential rambling that has characterised Gibberings over the years.

This has generally been my objection to the Facebookification of online communication and interaction. It's incredibly superficial in many cases. Or that's the impression I've gotten from the rare occasions I've seen people using FB. I have been thoroughly told off for ignorance and that actually there's all kindsa in-depth discussion going on on FB if you know where to look but that's not what I've seen people use it for even if it does exist. I've actually seen BLers calling for a "Like Button". Despair would be the word upon seeing that probably. Have people really come so far adrift they prefer to communicate via the medium of buttons?

Sup slaaaags. Long time no see.

How we all doing?

'ello ello :)

What's your name, where've you been and what you on?

I blame Mailmonkey, he's on FB 24 hours a day and keeps quite a few decent blueligters(and former BLers) busy posting there instead of here, with his games, challenges and other stuff. Stll I love the guy and he makes my FB wall worth reading.

Pff, MM keeps me entertained during the day when I can't be on here much. Can't blame him for that. Plus if I spammed Eadd like I do FB groups, you wouldn't be too impressed. =D

Tis true. if you have the right people i've seen very long interesting debates on facebook status's, i have some decent convos with people in chats, people post up interesting links, it goes on

Was it a 'debate' about the relative merits of 'omg' versus 'yolo'?

Lol... no. i know hardly anyone who uses yolo and omg. Interesting status + inteligent people = sometimes a decent debate. ive had ones on religion and politics and all sorts of shit which have gone on for 100s of pages

Hahahaha what a load of f BS! I'm sorry but Facebook n intelligent conversation go as much as someone trying to get high on H while dosed on 3g of suboxone.

Evey

Bullshit for you perhaps, ignorant as fuck, it depends who you have on your page. if your page is full of dull gormless wankers then what do you expect

Anyways, nice day sunbathing.... beautiful

Sounds absolutely riveting. :D

Afraid to say I remain unconvinced. I've seen it turn far too many otherwise sound folk into narcissistic teenagers. And having been a narcissistic teenager I'm 'so over that', to borrow FB parlance.

Aye, if you have idiot friends, expect idiotic conversations.. I don't because my FB friends are mostly awesome.

Talking to decent people on Facebook is like choosing to meet up for a meal in KFC.

You might even enjoy it somehow, but it's very much in spite of the setting rather than because.

Maybe, but for the majority it's not entirely feasible to spend time talking in person. Much as I'd like to.

Though I don't think forums are much better, either. Sorry. ;)
