Am I correct in saying that they take a sample from an old soul record and repeat the odd line or word over and over on top of a modern beat? If so, this goes to prove why I really don't understand electronic music. Where's the creativity or the artistry in that?
That's the thing, I can see artistry in pretty much every other genre (even rap, which I can't stand) and I feel like I'm missing out by not "getting" this electronic stuff. Try as I might, I just don't understand it.

It could be argued that people doing cover versions lack originality, creativity and artistry too perhaps?
Electronic music covers such a wide spectrum..just trying to find out what kinds..gonna sound like a pedantic twit now and not my intention..but a guitar attached to an amp is electric? And I know your not saying that, play me some electronic stuff you hate?
I have tried several times to get Sammy's beloved Swans and as yet I am not feeling or getting it...you can't please all the people all the time. And thank fuck we all like different stuff to be honest..how dull the world would be if we didn't?
I just watched one of those 9th Wonder things up there ^

No offence to the guys on here having a go, I'm just talking about the genre in general.
You see curious I am confused as I know you said you don't like hip hop but you kind see the artistry in it...well hip hop is samples innit Dan..mostly? You know I always say I am not a big fan of hip hop actually turns out I am but only certain kinds!!!
I have a feeling that curious will see that as an example of technical skill rather than creativity or artistry.
Where does one end and the other begin, and do they intersect? I think they can personally, but with today's technology there's far less originality than at perhaps any point in popular music history, which is weird.
