Catching up with yesterdays gibberings.

I'm also sitting on a train on my way to a plane then off to sunny Spain.

We should all record our voice one day, would be interesting to hear everyone

Heh, definitely. Especially as I never believe people when they say they don't have much of an accent. :sus:

I picture Dan with some variation of a West Country accent.

We should set up a paragraph we could all read. Would be interesting to put a voice behind the text :) It'd also save us from having to think of something to say.

This is a pretty cool website that has loads of different voice recordings from people around the uk (and world I think)-

And Shambles I wanna hear your silky smooth tones.

Morning all

@Evey, picking up a new language can be really rewarding and nowadays it isn't too difficult to practice either; apps like duolingo (I read you have an iPhone) and websites like livemocha can be great starters

Not looking forward to today too much. Looong day of motivational letter/ capability tests ahead, hoping to land a traineeship soon...

Getting some gorgeous views as the rising sun hits the mist hugging the frosty, rolling hills

^Morning. Gl with the tests n whatnot.

What sort of traineeship?

I'd really like to learn French - I dropped it as soon as I could, which I regret now. I was pretty good at it as well... I quite often look at the French translations of things & can usually guess the meaning of words despite having not learned much.

I'm not sure why, but Japanese is a language which interests me, probably because it is so different from European languages, although it's not really very accessible or useful compared with French!

We did have a thread for that but I can't seem to find it. Can't recall what it was called, mind, so that's not a huge surprise. May have been culled at last culling. I do believe it was fairly popular last time it came around. I will not be taking part if it comes around again (I absolutely loathe my recorded voice - not a huge fan of my live voice either but recorded is just horrendous 8o).

The latest incarnation would appear to be archived here‎.

EDIT: Not that there's much action at all in that one. Ah well.

Minimal sleep... bollocks... nevermind tho feeling alright at the mo, time to crack on making this soulful beat, can anyone recommend any decent soul music for sampling?

Alby I may piss you off now but WHY have you lost heart now? Not judging you just asking why?
Has something happened????
I thought art was your passion?

Evey

It is and isn't my passion. Sometimes I enjoy it, sometimes I don't. When I enjoy it it's great, but even then I think I enjoy making music more, and more consistently enjoy it.

With music you can all make stuff together...Making art is pretty lonely, even when you're in a team.

Aretha Franklin would seem the obvious choice, although I couldn't recommend any specific song!

Aretha's a little overdone, don't you think? She's every white person's favourite soul diva. Admittedly she was pretty darn good, but she's been sampled more times than John Bonham's kick drum.

Yeah overdone, something uncommon. or summin

The first 2 mins of this, what sorta music is that hes sampling? Sounds wicked when he gets it going

Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Not necessarily my dream job but figured it's worth a shot.

I dropped French too, which I now sincerely regret. I read and understand it to some extent still, but speaking is sooo much harder. Had a French Canadian girl for some time and although her accent wasn't as classy I stil loved it when she spoke french to me <3

Old: Jackson Sisters. Not so old: Soul Investigators, Nicole Willis.

Do you know Robert Glasper? Makes some soulful tunes too, might serve as some inspiration

There is a reason she is the obvious choice as you allude to... it's hard to match her in terms of not only talent & style but also for sampling itself! I don't think it's possible to over-do her... it comes down to the quality of the songs she's sampled for more than anything else... they are what get old, she is timeless :)

Oh aye - just like Bonzo's kick drum, certain things get sampled consistently for a reason.

I just think it's ironic that sampling, which was supposed to blast the musical doors off their hinges, has actually resulted in an extremely narrow palate of sounds, to the extent that you get the exact same drum breaks being used continuously and nobody seems to complain! :D

Such is life, I guess.
