I'm more a fan of his dad's brand of casual racism, to be honest, but yeah, you'd hope the Prince of Wales would be reasonably savvy, he had more privilege and opportunity than... anyone, ever.

In principle, I hate the idea of a monarchy, of nobility, of the idea that there are people who are my natural betters. Realistically, though, I think our monarchy is a good thing. Queen Elizabeth represents so much. Having a figurehead like her is just so powerful. I mean, France, the best person they can send to visit a foreign nation is Francois Hollande. Does he command respect? No. We can send David Cameron, and that's OK, I guess, but he's just our diplomatic appetiser; we've not even pulled out the big guns yet. Cameron is one thing, but if the fucking Queen of England is visiting, well, you definitely get out the good china. She's really important, and she helps us all to be more important in terms of the global perception of the United Kingdom. What the fuck would we even call ourselves without a monarch? The British Republic? That's fucking rubbish.

yeah, i didnt expect pro royalist views to go unchallenged on here. For my money though, given that he doesnt follow 'the rules' and speaks out intelligently on things he's not supposed to, he's an asset and credit to the country. I dont deny they could certainly downsize on their huge budgets and palaces and things like that though.

^Nah, that's the whole point, isn't it? Like, I met a Nigerian prince. I'm sure lots of people have met Nigerian princes. The one I knew was a bouncer in a club. I would never say this, and it's not a PC thing, but I did think "hmm, in my country, princes don't work in nightclubs. They're fabulously wealthy". If you're going to have royalty (which I think we should, as I've said), you want them to have a lot of pomp and glitz. It would understate the Queen's exalted majesty if she lived in a semi and took the Metropolitan line, no?

Really ?? you're suggesting that to suggest that a family that hoard huge wealth and property that was effectively stolen from the general population of the country whilst many people struggle to make an honest living is akin to racism ... I don;t follow that at all.

As to what kind of country we would be without them, I don't see that as even close to a good reason to allow then to continue their anachronism, very few other countries have such a monarchy and they seem to get on just fine.

As far as ambassadors for the country are concerned, it's very much hit and miss since we have no chance to elect them, our government may be a poor excuse for members of the human race but at least there is some opportunity to influence which bunch of losers sit on those seats 'avin a kip.

I'd get rid of them all tomorrow, shortly after stripping them of their stolen assets, maybe Germany would have them since they have so many connections there:D

there is some kind of compromise, i wouldnt expect them to have to sell off Buckingham Palace, but they could maybe downsize all their other properties and land ownership a bit, and sell some of it off to pay their own way a bit more. I believe that they only get a tiny proportion of tax payers money to maintain all their properties and operations.

I was saying that I think it's funny when Prince Phillip makes offensive jokes based on cultural stereotypes. No, I wasn't saying that republicanism is akin to racism.
They could start by paying bedroom tax on all those spare rooms they don't occupy.
It's a bit disingenuous to refer to a reduction in benefits as a tax, no? It's a bit different, too, when the building is not only a domicile, but a landmark and tourist attraction. The government maintains the Tower of London, too, not because people live there, but because it's an important part of our cultural heritage.

Who's money does the government use to look after these places, not theirs, not the queens but ours.

Kate has a baby, all the media saying how great it is etc. Now we have another royal to pay for with our taxes, do they celebrate the council estate mum when she has a child that will take child benefits etc but cost less than the royal baby.

Thanks Babylon I was some what confused...Prince Philip what a wonderful ambassador for our country, the truth is this is how many other nations judge us, the fact that they might travel here and spend a few £s whilst gawping at how ridiculous it all is provides me with little cancellation. I think we would lose very little in the way of tourism, in fact we may well gain, ATM you can only visit Buckingham palace about 80 days of the year, the Tower of London makes more in terms of revenue.

It's all our money Max, the gained it by stealing it from the poor over 100s of years, not just them but they are the top of the tree and for me they represent much that is wrong with this fine country....like I said

......just sayin:D

Another 27mgs of AH sublingual to top up the 50mgs I did earlier, then one pyrazolam and one diclazepam. Was going to prepare some diphenidine capsules for bed time, but then I decided against it, I want to have a clear head when doing dissociatives as I value the hole experience otherwise I won't remember anything and it would be pointless, I'm also not sure whether mixing synthetic opiates, benzos and novel dissos is that wise of an idea.

Anyway won't take anything else for the day, reckon 77mgs of AH plus one of each of the benzos should keep me nice.

The postie just now I think was feeling guilty about the delays stopped me to chit chat under the rain, started a conversation about the recycling stuff I was putting outside, as I casually opened the jiffy bag in front of him, I reckon he saw the metal pipes and wanted to sell them for scrap metal, he looked very surprised when I told him we're throwing them away.

Later fellas

Also MDB, I'm sure I made a post last night in the opiate WD thread, I later started thinking that perhaps it was easy to mis-interpret, I was in no way being critical of you mate, I feel complete solidarity towards your plight, it's just that time-frame of the endless tapers and repetition of same questions that sort of raised my eyebrows. Didn't mean to be a dick, take care

My cat could make a better argument for the monarchy than that and I don't even have a cat.

I hope your chemistry has more substance than your politics because that was rubbish.

Sheesh, my politics is pragmatic and centrist, and my ideology is largely the rejection of ideology. What about my point of view is so irksome to you? I don't mind if we disagree, I would rather you pointed out the flaws in my argument rather than just called it rubbish, though. I think that the esteem and prestige that having such a prominent and recognisable and beloved ambassador affords us as a nation outweighs the obvious injustice of having royalty. Just my opinion.

Politics is subjective; chemistry less so. I have a piece of paper saying I can do chemistry; my politics is strictly amateur. Fear not.

Which places? They use taxpayer money, just like they do to maintain Tower Bridge and the Angel of the North. It's not quite as simple as it just being her house.

I think that, if we start looking at what things in Britain could be characterised as ill-gotten gains, we might have to be critical of an awful lot. Bristol and Liverpool were built on the slave trade; what should we do about that?

it will take time to re-adjust. Have you ran out of baccie part way through a day ? I allways found that worse than starting a fresh new day without any nicotine at all. The first cig creates further cravings for more and more throughout the rest of the day, its nowhere near as bad if you have a totally 'fresh' day.

Two reasons I ended my post with the word 'rubbish'.

1) A reflection, literally, of your post which ended with the words "fucking rubbish"

2) I have a stinking cold and can barely get out of bed let alone be bothered to argue republicanism.

As for what particularly irked me - your reasoning, supposedly based on a rejection of ideology but which, in fact, is mere parroting of right-wing ideology, that it all boils down to getting out the best china in order for the world to perceive Britain in a better light. That's just crass. Sorry, fucking rubbish.

If you want to be seen as rejecting tired ideologies then its better not to reprint arguments from the Daily Mail.

PS I don't doubt your chemistry skills. Wouldn't know how to.
