Misc Genuine drugs that could enhance vocals?

So my question is, could it actually be possible to take a drug that could enhance and improve your vocals. By vocals i am referring to singing ability.
Could a drug do any of the following:
-improve vocal range
-improve ability to hit and maintain a note
-ability to speak and therefore sing with greater speed ( including ability to quickly adjust vocal tone)

Or anything else linked to vocals and singing. If it is possible does anyone know which drugs could have these effects?
I know it sounds ridiculous, and the answer may be that yes it's a stupid question, but i'm curious.
 
An old friend was a vocalist and still is so my advice comes second hand from witnessing her. Your vocal range is determined by the physical shape of your larynx. You won't be able to produce notes that go beyond physical limitations, but you can practice daily to reach your maximum range. There is no magic pill to make your talent better, you have to practice to achieve that.

Her life was full of prevention though. No smoking, no drinking alcohol or caffeine, no partaking in activities that dehydrated her throat. Starting the day before a performance should would not talk a lot, would drink plenty of water and avoid dairy because it produces mucous. One time she told me that you have to use your talking voice like your singing voice, always breathing correctly (from the diaphragm) and projecting outward, but I'm not sure what she meant by this.

Licorice root is the #1 herbal solution for dry and sore throats so the advice above makes sense. Other than that I'm not sure why you'd be looking into drugs for this. Most drugs have side effects that would impact your singing voice in some way. Dry mouth/throat is a common side effect of many pharmaceuticals.
 
Lol, I honestly thought this was a weird question but was surprised to see an actual substance that does this. Interesting indeed.

I find on stimulants I sign much better then sober but this may be a perception thing. But still, if your signing usually occurs in private then this would work for all intents and purposes.
 
Nat King Cole believed smoking several packs of kool menthol cigarettes made his voice sound better.....I think the dude ended up dying of lung cancer though....heh..
 
benzos really help me, as well as cigarettes for tone. im not a great singer though. if im trippin hard enough to see the notes in colours then i can sing well.
 
I find drugs only fuck up my voice more.. Hah. Nothing beats the voice sober and clear..

I've played shows high and played shows sober... sober wins hands down and I know because people will tell me when I'm off my game. Ha. The NYC music scene can be pretty brutal.

I've never tried that Vigroids stuff but, if it works that way it'd be cool.
 
A certain vocal coach I know actually suggests Day Quill to her students! She probably uses the Ny Quizz version though! Honestly, I think that it its fucked up that she suggests drugs (OTC or not) to her students... Imma have to turn them on to this Vigroid stuff now...lol, I had to draw the connection...! 8o

It's strange because if I take a hit of amphet I can sing well beyond my normal capabilities. However it soon tires out due to lack of sleep and nutrition.
Proper vocal coaching is the key, there's no magic pill or potion. Not long term anyway.
Just listen to the state of Lemmy these days!
 
Booze...it'll make you the best singer on the planet in your eyes :) Just ignore every one else's opinion :P
 
It depends on the vocal style... for singing in my death metal project opiates help me sustain it for longer periods of time=) for singing singing i would say sober is the way to go.
