Hi All,
My pain management doctor decided to take me off Opana for baseline pain and switch me to 40mg of methadone a day, because I recently changed health plans, so I have to pay for my prescriptions out of pocket first and then sumbit them to my insurance company to get an 80% refund. For 60 Opanas (40mg) a month, it was over $600 dollars at the pharmacy, which was way to much for me to pay for. So he put me on 40mg of methadone a day, I know they no longer stock the 40mg Wafers in pharmacies, so I had to get 120 10mg Methadone generics (Roxane generics), the round ones, not the bricks or the methadose tablets. Anyway, the cost for this ended up being $140 dollars, which is a little over a dollar a pill. I was under the impression that Methadone was significantly cheaper than this at the pharmacy, the problem is that I have a contract with my doctor to use the same Pharmacy every month, and most pharmacies dont even stock methadone here in ny, and they wont even tell you over the phone , they need to see the script before they even tell you if its in stock (common procedure here for C2 substances). Anyway I was wondering if anyone else prescribed these knows what a more normal price for the generic is, I was thinking they wouldnt be more than ten cents a pill...Im gonna bring this up to my doctor next month, but I have a feeling he gets a "kickback" from this pharmacy he sends everyone too, because pretty much all of his patients are on pain meds because hes a psycical rehabilitation doctor and specializes in pain management,

Well im not doing MMT for dependence persay, im just using it as a baseline medicine for pain management since my new insurance wont cover Oxycontin or Opana..im also on 180 30mg roxicodones a month, so not much sense in going to a methadone clinic. I just feel like im getting ripped off on these generics.

A lot of the national pharmacy chains have prices on their websites. So you could compare there.

I think part of the reason it costs that much is because you're getting 10mg pills, as opposed to higher dosage pills.

Oh, and don't be surprised if this gets closed, as it doesn't really have anything to do with HR and it's essentially price discussion.

wow i really sorry for this op the us sucks atleast in the uk whatever the doctor thinks you need you get and the cost is hidden from patient you pay standard prescription charge of less than 10 dollars wether the the months pills are less than 10 dollars or 10000 dollars
