Heroin Gear on the Go - How do you store your stuff?

You would have to inject like a full mL of air to cause serious detrimental effects.

More than that actually. When I had my PICC line in for IV antibiotics, my home health nurse told me I could inject the a whole 10 ml syringe full of air in without any problem. Your body simply absorbs it. And this thing went right up to my heart. Over 15 ml would be when you should worry about it. My wife confirmed it and she is in her last semester of nursing and works in the ER at the hospital.

I know this doesnt really add to the convo, but, it might put some people at ease.

Ha I got a bag of like 30 new syringes in my garage for absolutely no reason....think I had a relative that took back shots or some shit. I'll share with some junkies =D hahaha

no but seriously man, just throw your syringes in a bag and chuck em into the woods somewhere?

Please, nobody listen to this completely idiotic suggestion. Throwing used needles in the woods? Seriously man? I'm sorry for sounding harsh but this is completely irresponsible and the complete OPPOSITE of harm reduction. what if some kids playing come across it and accidently stab themselves? Unlikely, but anything is possible. There have been plenty of suggestions for making yoru own sharps containier and how to properly dispose of it. also, outside of most doctor's offices they have sharps bins, at least around where I live.

If you are an IV user, take the extra precautions to do things properly, and as safely as possible.

If you have the tools to do so (incinerator, propane forge etc), I suggest incinerating your needles. Higher temperature the better.

I thought you could also get sharps boxes at most needle exchanges if you have 'em in your area.

Not a very good idea to be carrying around junk/needles whether they are used or not. Just last week I got nailed for Loitering for Narcotics, as I was parked on my girlfriend's street, which is in a heroin infested part of town. I was parked on her street waiting for her to get home, a cop came by, questioned me about why I was sitting there, and I had explained to him that I was waiting for my girlfriend to get home from work. (They were D.Ts) They found one sealed needle from Rite-Aid in my car, even with the pamplet that says it is completely legal to own and possessA needle as long as you have the flier which is given to you at Rite-Aid(and that it's not used, obviously). I didn't have any junk on me, just the one needle. When he found it, he searched my entire vehicle, found nothing as far as used paraphenalia, no drugs, nothing. Still, I got written up for loitering for narcotics, when I was waiting about 2 houses down parked from my girlfriend's house. Which was absolutely bullshit. I couldn't do much of fighting it in court, but they ended up dropping it to an open container. I didn't even HAVE an open container in my car. They just found one sealed 31g needle with the pamplet. Just goes to show you these cops will get you whatever way they can.

Now, whenever I goto score, I leave all of my gear home and just wait till I get to a safe place(my home) in order to set-up and bang. I know this really doesn't pertain to your thread, but when I was hiding all of my junk(on the go), I would hide it under my spare-tire in the trunk of my car and to my surprise, not one cop has found it there, and I've been pulled over multiple times, and had my car searched. The area my girlfriend lives in is very big on heroin distribution, so they take no chances. Regardless, it's a bullshit $100 fine that I have to pay when they found nothing illegal. I even gave them my girlfriend's address which was literally 100ft away from where I was parked. I told the cop "Do you really think I'd be sitting here waiting to score with my girlfriend's house literally a stone throw away, when she doesn't even know I use the junk? He didn't seem to care.

Then it turns out, the real reason they pulled me over was because they were looking for a gun. Yeah, a 25 yr old skinny white-boy is going to carry a gun. First of all, I don't even have a pistol permit, or a conceal/carry one to go with it. So anyway like I said, they searched my car. I should of been let off with a warning. I fully cooperated and let them search my vehicle, pat me down, took off my socks, it was like they got more and more frustrated when they couldn't find anything. It was almost funny. The cops were a bunch of real assholes but I understand their stance as well. They're trying to get a gun off the streets, and this section my girlfriend lives in, like I said, is known for narcotics distribution and it's in a school zone.. so they really are out in force.

And the funny thing? The cop passed me and only saw me for literally 30 seconds,. He was coming the other way as I was parked, passed me, and then left. Then proceeded to pull behind me, hit his light, and ask me to step out of the car. Then on the ticket he wrote "Defendant was parked in this location for the purpose of obtaining narcotics for no less than 20 minutes. How in the hell do you know I was sitting there for 20 minutes? You don't. And because I wasn't. I literally was there for about 5 minutes. And I wasn't there to obtain narcotics! I guess just because they nail a couple people doing it, they have to assume everyone is doing the same thing.

Pretty fucking stupid if you ask me, not to derail or anything. So I have to get hit with a $100 fine for an open container when there was none in my car. You can't make a case against me for having an un-opened syringe with the pamplet stating that it is fully 100% legal to be in possession of one. Just doesn't make sense. Oh well.

But back on topic...in my early days...

If I knew I was going out, and I was planning on banging up while I was out, I would set up two rigs at home. Cap them up, and store them inside of a secret department in my car. Usually I could make a quick stop(I have big easy to hit veins), register, and hit the mark. Then I would break the tip off that needle, throw it in a soda bottle, as well as the rig, and dispose of it in the nearest trash I could find. If I was going out to score, I would never bring a needle/cotton/spoon with me. I'd just wait until I got home. It was only about a 15m ride to the dope spot anyway.

I always break the tip off the needle when I goto dispose of it. Then I'll take the soda bottle with the rig in it that I had used, and trash it. I know that isn't exactly the safest thing to do, but I don't have a sharps container, and as long as the needle is broken off, cap put back on and in a soda bottle, that's the closest thing I've come up with to staying safe. Believe me, the last thing I want is some person coming across it and thinking "Hey, what's this!". That's why I insure the needle is completely taken out so there is nothing to stab themselves with. With my money going towards drugs/bills now a days, I can't justify buying a sharps container. I don't use overly much anymore anyway. I use a bundle one day a week, and usually use about two needles for the 10-sack.

If a sharp container is really the way to go...is there anyway I can make my own? Or should I just swing by a local health facility, and drop it off in the box they usually leave outside? Again, no needle point attached.

Edit: Oh, and the funny thing.. The cop said to me "I'm going to give you a number of our narcotics agent. I want you to call him, if you want to help yourself out. I never called him, because I knew the cop was lying out of his asshole, and trying to have me admit to something I wasn't doing. When I showed up in court, the provided attorney even told me "The cops lied about this, but we're going to have to hit you with a fine, as unfair as it is..it's just the way the justice system works. So what we're going to do is give you an "Open container violation. It's $100 bucks, no record of it, I'd just pay it. It sucks, and this kind of stuff happens all the time, but from the report...no illegal drugs were found in your car and you were within your right to be in possession of that syringe, because it was still stealed in the package, and you had the pamplet. That's completely legal, so it can't be used against you for any reason. Since there were no narcotics in the car, for all we know that syringe could of been for your elderly grandmother with diabetes."

Kids playing? I didn't say throw them in the park. I meant the woods you see off the side of a highway or in the middle of nowhere. Is it any worse than teenagers throwing glass beer bottles all over the place?

Either way, I know it's not the best idea, but not totally horrible if you just do it once or something.

You do realize that there are people whose idea of a good time is to walk through the woods e.g. mushroom hunting..? There are also people like forest service workers and surveyors that could come into contact with your trash later. At worst they will contaminate themselves, at best it's a hassle for them to dispose of.

Littering used needles on the side of a highway or in a forest is profoundly disrespectful and dangerous. If you have the time and effort to drive out to a forest with a bag of needles then you can probably find e.g. a city garbage can or someone elses' dumpster to throw your rigs into just as easily.

Dumping needles is much worse than teenagers throwing glass bottles everywhere because the glass bottles generally haven't been in contact with human blood, nor do they have tiny sharp points unless they are broken.

Think before you act.

Thank you, sekio. Pretty much exactly what I was going to respond with. Littering used needles is not only completly unsafe, it is disrespectful to the environment and can cause problems if someone came across it. Just because other people may litter glass bottles, or anything for that matter, does not mean it is okay for YOU to do it.

Seriously, use your brain man.

Like I said, I think if you don't have any kind of sharps box, then you should take your rigs, break the needle point off, and dispose of it separately. Whether it's flushing it down a drain, or what not. For the rest of the rigs, they go in a soda pop 20oz bottle, with the cap on, and I dispose of them in the trash. This way, if anyone sees it, they're going to see the soda bottle loaded with syringes and it's safe to assume they're not going to go about opening it.

Another option is to goto the nearest office(healthquest) in my area, and usually hey have a used sharps container outside, and I'll place my left-over rigs in there. And either way, the needle point is always broken off.

I find that to be pretty safe. I don't have an incinerator, so no go there... but I imagine as long as the barrel and other objects of the syringe are fully cleaned(bleach), and don't have a needle point to stick anyone with, it should keep people from coming in contact with anything that can poke them and potentially give anyone any kind of disease. Just because I'm clean medically, doesn't mean I don't go the proper limits.

Fireanddrain, there is a needle exchange in Detroit from what i have read, check the Detroit heroin thread and ask there. I live a few miles from detroit and at my city offices building they have a sharps container. I would imagine most city offices have them or even check your local fire department.

Making your own sharps container -

take a (plastic) milk carton and strip the labels off. Fill it up with used syringes, put the cap on it, tape the cap on, write HOME SHARPS on it in permanent marker on all 4 sides, and that is completely legal in the U.S. for a sharps disposal bin.

I'll look into it. How do these places work? The one I knew im SF wasn't even a true "exchange" in that they gave you free needles and provided a place to dispose of your used ones. There wasn't a one to one trade off. Is that normal?

If you dont have a sharps box go to walmart or a drug store, they usually have REAL red sharp boxes, and the little ones are like 5 dollars or less. Surely is you can afford junk you can afford a extra couple of dollars for good safe disposal. Just saying.

I have even been so desperate that I've had to prep the points before hand, because my girlfriend had no clue about my habit and I was going to be with her family ALL day. So I prepped all the syringes before hand(about 5 or 6), put on long socks, pants, and then placed them in my socks all around my leg and even taped them to my leg to make sure they stayed put. That way I could just spend enough time in the bathroom to 'pee' and not spend 30 minutes prepping and trying to find a vein. And I know all you guys have been there, sometimes it even takes longer because you have to poke yourself 50 times.

I work in a chemistry department at a university as well. So a lot of the syringes I have, I can take the point off and have small little containers, lids, and even a small pen-type case for just the points that I try and fit a lot of my gear in. I usually also carry around a small pyrex vial that I keep pure ethanol in for cleaning or using to mix with opana er.

That's interesting; I've prepped my needles on the go before and when I'm forward thinking enough to have alcohol wipes available, it is definitely the way to go.

As far as two minutes vs 30, I have been having a lot of trouble the past two days finding a vein that works. Last night I left home with a prepped needle but still spent ten minutes finding a vein. Today at work I literally spent forty minutes trying to prep a shot and find a vein. Looks like the left elbow crease is shot, and the hand is a little too obvious with 30+ red circles on it. Anybody using their legs?

That does sometimes happen. Drinking a little bit of alcohol(a shot or two), applying heat, or being high already makes it a little easier to find/hit a vein. I have used my hands and feet in desperate situations, but not too many times. I have heard it is not a good idea to use the top of the hand and feet. I have also used the tiny part of the vein in the crevice on the inside of the wrist.

do some push-ups, (I know your gonna feel like a jackass doing this but.....) swing your arms, below your heart, using centrifugal(?not sure on that one.) force to try to collect blood in your arms and then quickly tie off....it sounds dumb but it works....it makes your veins easier to see.

Please don't just dump your syringes. Even if no one gets hurt, it makes all users look bad and angers everybody. And don't throw it in the trash either. I've been poked as a trashman and known others who have. Seriously, if you're going to inject, get an exchange card so it's ok to carry them and don't need to ditch it immediately. Keep them in a sin bin(homemade or otherwise) and dispose them all when ready . An Exchange, hospital, sharps disposal(some public bathrooms), hell melt them if you have to.

Only time I ever ditched any, I was being chased by a cop. I had about 50 in a sharps container and hid them in some bushes. Then I came back the next day to get them. I didn't have an exchange card for the area so I would have caught a charge on them. (plus I had a gram stashed between my ass and didn't want to give them any extra reason for a cavity search)
