as if you didn't have enough of a reason to hate New York and every ungrateful shit head who lives there, HBO is concentrating it's 'viral' marketing for season 2 in NYC.

first up:

Westeros food trucks. as a vegetarian, i'd pass on everything but still. fucking New York City.

woahhhh what's with the hostility girlie. if you want the cool things here come here bahahaha.
HBO always does that.
for boardwalk empire they revived oldstyle subway cars during certain hours all decked out in that shit. i got to ride one once :D it was coool as shit.
i haven't heard of/seen these food carts though. i mean there's foodcarts on every single corner. i always just use the one by my building. so unless this one was really decorated i don't think anyone would really notice.
do you have any other info about them?

oh god.
he's too cute
fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

he reminds me sooo much of a slut i fell for a while back i still see sometimes. breaks my heart.
everytime i see him on screen i'm just like SO HOT...UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH :\

anyways, so excited!!! i almost forgot about it until the promos. everytime i go somewhere now i see hunger games AND game of thrones ads. it makes me soo happy! nerd city over here :D

i still haven't made it to any of the books yet though. i def plan on it this summer. i'm not going to read any book prior to the season though. i don't want to end up expecting too much from HBO and being disappointed. i'd rather be pleasantly surprised when i read the books and enjoy the series too.

Kenickie, thank you for those pics!

I read the first four books about 4 years ago, and the first book I read during Hurricane Wilma, so that's like 5ish years ago. I don't remember the books that well since it's been so long, but I'm kinda disappointed in Melisandre's image. They often call her the red witch and describe her as ruby red and bright red. This is a book with dragons, so I think they should have made her bright, firey red outfits and dyed her hair much brighter. Wasn't her hair supposed to be red? Or was her hair dark? I don't remember.

I shamefully admit to getting halfway through book 5. I need to read the rest, but he dragged it out way too much. Getting through the first quarter of the book was painful.

April 1st (I think?) I am so so so excited.

ETA: Book 2 and 3 were awesome, so if anyone is hesitant to get into the series but want to check it out, now is the time.

^
Ditto; Clash of Kings and Storm of Swords are *by far* the best books in the set to date. Book 4 was horribly dull, IMO; Book 5 was an improvement, but a pale shadow of the others.

Re Melisandre: I was hoping they'd give her creepy red eyes and blood-red hair as in the books, but no such luck. Oh well. I do wonder if they're going to do
NSFW:
Stannis's wannabe lightsaber, Lightbringer. ;)

Considering he took 5 years to get the 5th book out, I'm wondering if he's burnt or something. I'm sure his publisher gave him an advance, so he has to write or lose it.

They have rumors about 6 already I think, but I still need to finish 5. If 6 is anything like 5 (drawn out way too much), I might forego the rest and just watch the series. lol

It's so much fun watching the series come to life from the books.

i'm excited to see how they do

c'mon girl get it out!

Melisandre seems to be a disliked character, but i quite like her. I think this actress will do great.

random side question i just thought about

NSFW:
why can't Sansa be the younger, more beautiful queen, instead of Margarey Tyrell or whatever? I guess Cersei thinks Margarey is more of a threat, but Sansa could fit the part too, yes?

RE Kenickie:

NSFW:
Probably three major reasons:
1.) The impression I get from the books is that the Tyrells are second only to the Lannisters in terms of wealth and influence, especially in the south; an incipient rivalry between their houses seems almost natural.

2.) My own feelings about Sansa notwithstanding, it's pretty clear by Book 4 that Sansa is too broken and weak to possibly be a rival. Not only that, by the time her and Ms. Tyrell are at loggerheads, Sansa is already out of the picture.

3.) "Maggy's" prophecy was specific about the age of her rival, which Cersei intuits readily; this would make her older than Sansa.

In any event, I'm stoked to see Natalie Dormer, who I've been in lust with since The Tudors. :)

I read the first four books about 4 years ago, and the first book I read during Hurricane Wilma, so that's like 5ish years ago.

Going on 7 years, Wilma was in 2005 the year after 97850645 hurricanes hit S Florida in a span of like 3 months. I have a lot of good/bad memories from that year, not the least of which is learning to play poker. :)

don't understand half the posts here!! just wanted to day i have never really got into fantasy type stuff before but this series has blown my mind and i CANNOT WAIT for SERIES 2!

^same here, it's next to impossible to talk about the actual tv series with all this incessant book talk.

^nah, splitting would have those problems you said. can the conversation just move, please?

I second this. I keep avoiding this thread like the plague because I don't want to get accidentally spoiler'd.

2nded.
anything that's totally NSFW-ed spoiler alert and bookish can't that just go into a words thread?

^some time ago, after hours of heated debate and careful consideration, we decided no. posters are welcome to discuss the source material in film and television threads, so long as they are very conscious about tagging potential spoilers.

lol hours of heated debate and careful consideration? i thought it just became too overbearing. i think we've done a damn fine good job as well, even though that leads to pages upon pages of posts that are nothing but spoiler tags. i would imagine the words people would have the same complaint -- YOU GOT TV IN MY BOOK THREAD! it's kept this thread going in this year long Throne Game drought.
