"Free" water at festivals

I hate those preachy HugsNotDrugs and RaveSafe people. I have a friend who always shit stirs them, winds them up about how he took this coloured panadol someone offered him and now he feels weird, that kinda shit. I think that takes it too far, they're trying to help people, but to me they come across in the same way as anti smoking protestors and that breed of annoying.

You'll find a lot of us here have some experience with this kind of service.

Sounds like a stupid thing to do to me. You should set your mate straight. Those people are there to help people not be hassled.

The Help-A-Mate or save a friend or something like ravesafe haha at Defqon are excellent, well even for me when I was freakin the fuck out and having major panic attacks haha.

Yeah like others said u guys are way too paranoid. They dont spike it with anything. If anything that would cause people to actually become more violent knowing I took some reasonably pure molly and something killed my buzz LOL

Cops don't need to give people on mdma anything to "control" them. People on mdma are perfectly cooperative and understanding.

Sounds like something the guy who's on his third day of being awake on meth would say.
Interesting though, it does sound plausible.

Imagine the shit that would go down if the public found out.
I think you overestimate the reasonabilty of "the public".
We're talking about a populous that on the whole doesnt support an end to the 'war on drugs'. Outrage is reserved for really petty bullshit.
So long as something isnt perceived to cost joe average more of his hard-earned, or stop him watching the footy, "the public" dont give a rat's arse what the authorities do to subdue people, whether they are "having a good time" or not.
Which is not to say that i think the OP's suggestion is anything but surreal paranoia.

I'm not knocking them or the great work they do. Many a time I've enjoyed the chill out section and shit like that, and I always treat them with the utmost respect. The only thing I don't like, is some of them get preachy to me, especially as I often take very high doses of various things. Perhaps they pick up on it, as I don't tell them what I've taken, nor what amount. Point being, I'm a grown man, I'll ingest what I want to, and I don't feel as though I should be earbashed with cliche anti-substance banter when all I want is some water and a bean-bag. I expect to be left alone when I say "I'm hot because I've been dancing for the better part of an hour, not because my insides are cooking. I know what I'm doing, I'm with it, now let me relax please." I, as are they, at the event to do what I think is a good thing to do. Nobody should be hassled, it's against the PLUR policy.

But yeah, I would often pull that mate into line, relax the RaveSafer and inform them of his little joke, and diffuse the situation in general. I'm not mates with him anymore though.

Yes this happens at various Q-Dance and Powerhouse events in Sydney. No idea what they actually put in it but if you plan on taking MDxx stay away from the free taps at those events.

Do you have any evidence to back your statement up?

Have you even considered how this is physical possible?

People on medications and illicit substances who would be having interactions if a mass poisoning occurred. People drinking too much water etc.

No evidence other than maybe 20ish people (ranging from first timers to very experienced) describing the same effects, only ever after drinking the free tap water at these Sydney raves. You feel the comeup as per normal, feel the peak hit and then it happens extremely quickly, almost instantly - the high is completely gone. You still feel messed up and obviously affected, but the high is completely gone. Just to repeat myself, this has happened to me and many others, ALWAYS after drinking the free tap water.

I'm no chemist and I haven't been able to find the information online. I haven't gone to police or done any research, as it would be a fair bit of hard work and probably put myself at risk (as most other ecstasy users having attended these raves would probably feel too). I've reported it to the NDARC but I haven't called back to see if they followed up on it.

Edit: This doesn't occur at festivals. Even a recent rave which was officially labelled as a festival (not sure if I can say the name of it here) was confirmed to have free tap water which didnt effect the MDxx high by various friends. Leads me to believe that its some police or event organiser HR policy for raves in NSW.

Some one take a water sample at defqon this year and get it tested, of course 20% of the lawsuit is going to me for the idea.

When I first read this thread I thought, HA this guy is in mad psychosis yo!.

but further reading into it, and reflecting on my experience at defqon last yr, I think this is HIGHLY probable!.

I tripple dropped before heading to the event. By the time we got to the gates I was offtap as a mofo. Chain smoking ciggies like crazy.
Got inside. Drank the free water, as it was pretty hot. And then before I know it, I was sobre already.

This makes perfect sense really.

= stops ppl from OD'ing in their festivals
= no bad publicity
= MORE QDANCE/DEFQON every year

just my 2cents yo

Yeah you got me - I used the word randomly because I couldn't think of the one I wanted. I was pretty gone when I typed that all up.

I wouldn't even have bothered asking here if it was just the one person who said it to me, but I asked a few others and everyone was like yeah, sober-water, don't touch it!

I have also heard the rumour ages ago when I went to raves 100% sober. A few people came up and asked me why I was drinking so much of it, didn't I know it killed a peak? Back then I laughed and told them I wasn't on anything so it wouldn't do anything either way! Kind of amusing really.

The irony of it is, after I was told all this, I got it into my head that I was NOT having any more of that water. Luckily the rave was almost over by then, or I might have not had anything to drink for hours - it's just too damn difficult to buy a drink off someone who doesn't understand. So yeah, good HR on one hand, but once the stories spread, maybe not so much anymore...
