Free courses on all sorts. I'm definitely doing some of these:

Oddly enough I did five years of college (bits of paper at the end are and were neither here nor there - was 15-20 years ago) and have experience in many areas... but precious few that are immediately obvious as a selling point. In a face-to-face interview I tend to go down very well (fnarr) but to get such an interview you tend to need a CV... which is full of shite. Suppose I could at least in principle maybe get an interview now though. Perhaps.

Has anyone enrolled on the Philosophy, Astrobiology and Organic Chemistry courses on this site which begin tomorrow? If so, drop me a PM because they've got their own study forums, but obviously I haven't signed up using my BL name. Let us know and we can swap details and have a bit of a 'craic' during study.

which organic chemistry course?

I signed up for basic behavioural neurology, analytical chemistry and introductory organic chemistry part 1 last summer but none of them have announced start date yet.

actually just checked and introductory organic chemistry pt 1 starts today apparently, but they haven't bothered to email me to say so, after waiting all this time! grrr.

If you give it time the new courses will be uploaded on the torrent sites.
The one's from last year are on there already.

Oooh, I'm on Organic Chemistry. I think it's going to be way over my head tbh, but thought I'd give it a go.

I signed up with my real name, though, which was probably a daft move..

Even better for those of us not so great at sticking to days and times and stuffs and thats. There's some other decent courses I've grabbed off torrent sites. Think they were called summat like "The Great Courses" and some others that may be listed under "TTC" but can't for the life of me remember what the letter stand for. They're all audio lectures and come in nice short chunks so easy to digest. Covers a gazillion topics too. Quite enjoyed the Einstein one and the one on the Elightentment. Got a load more to get through at some point. Nice to play at night to doze off to, I found.

Yeah, I signed up with my real name as well (it seems to be the done thing). But what the hell, we can always swap thoughts/questions/whatever on BL via PM if you want mate :D

The Teaching Company, they changed their name about a year ago to The Great Courses, too many people looking for TTC on torrent sites and they're audio and video files.

I'm the guy who signed up as 'the capn' and posted in the introductions forum saying I signed up to the course so I could cook better meth.

Arnold : if you torrent coursera courses you miss out on getting graded, which is really helpful. They aren't all just video lectures (which you can download anyway) and html quizzes, like the ochem one relies quite heavily on marvinsketch and server side calculation of reaction scheme products and so on... + it's kind of nice to maintain an account with them and rack up passes.

I've been having fun trying to play "Guess Who?" with the Facebook group.. :D
Might drop you a PM when I need to copy your homework!

Kind of surprised no one else said that. Everyone else seems worryingly wholesome and academic.

hahah just kidding.

I'm going to have a look at the first lecture this afternoon, the induction quiz was alright, actually forced me to learn something about free radicals...

Can you get credit for taking these courses or is it mainly for personal interest? Inquiring minds want to know!

they are working on setting up a scheme where you will earn transferrable credits on some courses, but that's a while off, atm you just get a certificate of completion with some courses, some you don't get anything. But they do have a careers service and ppl have found it helped them get jobs etc.
