why do people take the plunger out and stir their dope? I just use the back of the plunger...the flat white piece. I'm not as sterile as I should be but using the plunger just seems dirty

I agree and have never understood it. And your method is only sanitary if you are using a fresh, UN-opened syringe every time. As we all know this is what people should be doing, but we know many "slip up" when it comes to the new needle every time advice. I personally use a sterilized "tool" of some kind, usually a fork I have washed and alcohol swabbed of which I have a few that are only used for this purpose.

Some people do things that they see other junkies do or have seen done in the movies. One of the points of this website is to clear up some of the information about what people have thought to be correct procedure, but is actually harmful, hence this being a harm reduction forum.

Dear Emily29707, thank you for your advice. However, could u please delete the part where it says my name. Someone (she won't tell me who) pointed it out and showed it to my mother who is apparently horribly ashamed and embarrassed by her daughter who is a recovering addict and hasn't touched a drug in over 4 yrs. Accordind to her I should b ashamed of that because she, and I quote "certainly is ashamed." But for the record, I have overcome one of the hardest things that there is to overcome in this world and I will NEVER apologize for that! And for everyone else out there who has struggled w addiction and come out the other side, don't ever let ANYONE convince you that you should b ashamed or embarrassed! I am glad you're doing well and I think it's a shame that your mother is ashamed of you. You should be proud of your accomplishment. Getting clean and staying clean for 4 years is incredible.

Gotta love an ex who is "concerned" enough to cyber stalk you. Perhaps in the future you can create usernames without your real name in it to throw him off the trail. Yes, I know I have my name as my username but nobody's looking for me online. They're all disgusted with me. Ashamed would be a step up.

I've been a junkie for 40+ years. Here some answers. First, most so called overdoses are not caused by the drug but bt nasty reactions to the cut. Everything from strcynine to mannitol to qunine has been used over the years (quinine was first added back in the late 1940's to help with a malaria outbreak in NYC, and it was NOT added by anyone working for Uncle Sam). Some of the things cause bizzare reaction in humans including anaphylactic shock. If you are really worried, clean it up first. You'll need a few basic chemistry items...a buchner funnel, acid and some base and some filter paper and pH paper. It doesn't really matter where you tie off as long as a vein comes up. Most non junkies have good veins so that shouldn't be a problem. Next, if you don't have a tolerence for opiates 10-15mg of pure heroin is plenty. Hard to determine unless you have taken some chemistry. Cotton is used to filter out particles from the solution plus it helps get all of the soultion from your cooker to your works..syringe that is. The main reason for cooking it up dope is to sterilize the solution.
All right, here comes the obligatory "do you really want to do this" part. I will be a junkie until the day I die. If I had know way back then what I know now I probably would not have done it. I say probably. It isn't the cool, magical, show your rebellious attitude panacea I once thought it was. It's just medicine (in most countries). Only the USA has it been turned into something else (by taking it out of the hands of physicians and turning it over to uneducated politicians). It's slightly less addictive than morphine and is equal to other opiod drugs like dilaudid, oxymorphone, fentanyl, etc. It's enjoyable until you get a habit (it took 6 months of shooting dope more than once a day for me to get a habit) and then it just gets you well. I know quite a few people who started using before I did but because they never used it more than about once a week (or less) they never became addicted. You might be one of the lucky ones (most people are) but you have no way of knowing. Good luck!

If yr gonna do it, I'd really recommend having someone you trust around when you start out. It's real easy to bite off more than you expect when yr IVing. The first time I did it I really enjoyed it, the second time I blacked out and smacked my face on my desk on my way to turn up the stereo....

I've snorted heroin once, smoked it once, and injected it once just to try each method. Pretty soon I'd like to shoot up and so far this forum has been fairly helpful but I'm honestly kinda lost. The parts that are throwing me for a loop are about the cottons, whether I should tie up higher or lower on my bicep, etc. Basically I'm looking for a rookie's guide to safely slamming dope at Sasquatch with my girlfriend. Any help at all would be very appreciated, thanks for your time!

been awhile since you reached out, but i just thought that i'd reiterate that even though you have all of this amazingly written info at your disposal, there really is nothing like being shown first hand how to do this. IV leaves a ton of room for complications. Hell, i've been a dope addict for 5 years but since the veins in my forearms are non-existent i still have trouble finding s site. another thing i might recommend is not putting yourself and your girlfriend through this for your each of your first times, especially at a festival which will be a breeding ground for bacteria and lacking common amenities you may need at some point. just a couple of concerns i had, but judging by the date of this post you've already been to Sasquatch and back, hopefully with a safe and positive experience.

So back to the topic of shooting dope, its going to be difficult to do it your first time. Just remember never push the plunger unless you are positive you are in the vein. If you feel a slight burn or see a bubble start to form, stop wha you are doing, pull out the needle and try again.

Theres nothing worse than missing a vein, if you dont get an infection/abscess or histamine reaction you might just not get nearly as high as you wanted to, and the rush will be missed entirey.
