i just went to see it, sold out.

i ran over 3 teenagers on my way out the parking lots and didn't shed a tear over it.

(j/k)

Saw it today with the family. Wasn't really truly impressed, but enjoyed it till the end, wasn't bored...so i think it is sufficient to say it fills the action quota, but not not much else....I am not much of an x men fan, so I cant honestly say more than that.

Just came back from this.

Fantastic movie.

I don't want to spoil anything by saying much about the movie but for anyone watching

BE SURE TO STAY TILL THE VERY END OF THE CREDITS

there is a secret teaser :)

Maybe I should clarify...

It is perhaps not as "fantastic" as I said when I first posted...

In hindsight I thought the film did lack the punch of the first two and there was some dodgy acting, bad dialogue, strange pace and obvious cgi effects...

But it is a pretty good action movie and doesn't let the series down. I still would have preferred Singer to have directed it though.

But yeah... not in the same league as X-Men 2, but probably on par with X-Men 1. I suppose it is a very similar sort of feel to the Terminator trilogy...

The third was okay... and exciting and all.... but...well... yeah.

Still one of the better big budget action movies around, and definately worth a watch... I was thoroughly entertained all the way through.

But yeah, my fanboy hype took over me a bit when I first posted.

horrid horrid movie when compared to the first too...

different writers/directors/screenplay folks led to a all action and none of the good stuff from the first too...

Soap opera esque dialogue and such... boring direction, not much diversity in pacing...

too many plots (all underdeveloped) in far too short a time...

I enjoyed it from an action standpoint...

The endings were a cheap way to insure that other x-men movies could come out...

Brett Radner took an interesting and exciting comic book series (and first too movies) and turned it into trite drama, boring and melodramatic with typical hollywood big explositions and such...

Hugely disappointed.

man i thought it was a great movie BUT there was times when things were like okay that just destroys 30+ years of a comic book. i was glad to see jauggernaut i was hoping for him to come out in xmen 2. Did anyone else wonder where nightcrawler and gambit was? i did wanna see havoc come in a get some revenge for scott's death.

DJ DaZ be careful, don't put any spoilers in your posts on reviews...

watch out and don't spoil stuff for people who might enjoy it...

i just saw it. And i loved it.

I wasn't going looking for the next Amelie, Waking Life or Matrix... i was going to continue a story line of an entertaining movie series based on a comic book i read as a kid.

I hate hate hate comic book movies. The only 2 that i have liked outside of X-men has been Sin City and V for Vendetta, so i dunno.

I got what i expected. Great special effects and non-stop action from begining to end. In X-men tradition from the comic book, underlying themes about racism/discrimination, etc continued of course. While i liked the first 2 movies more for story line, i felt they lacked a "punch" if you will and was disapointed by the lack of characters. This made up for it.

I did like that the movies brought Pheonix's story into the movies as that was the highlight of my love for the comic books. And staying past the credits... while probably not worth it.. does give you a nice little 10 second i'm glad i saw. Kelcy was well placed at the character of Beast.

I dunno, in some ways i liked this better than X2, not exactly a popular opinion of fans of the series, but oh well. As for everyone's cries about the lack of Gambit from all 3 movies, there's only so many characters you're going to fit in....and frankly, he wasn't exactly one of the more impressive X-men characters IMO.

Saw it last night, I really liked it. Below are my opinions/questions/spoilers, so if you want to read the text you will have to highlight it since it will be in white.

Start here:I've never read the comic books, so the characters were all new to me. What was the deal with Jean turning into that Phoenix character? Did she just basically "evolve" (as magneto put it) into a super mutant? I also thought there was a little bit too much hokey love stories going on for it to be a blockbuster, super hero movie. Ice man and the girl who ran through walls, him and Rogue, still visiting the Cyclops & Jean issue, Wolverine & Jean, etc. I would have rather had that time spend on ass kicking, but I'm not complaining. Jean looked pretty good, and I liked the scene of her getting wild on that hospital bed with wolverine.

I wish they would have used that guy who splits into a bunch of people more besides the 1 scene where the government has the camp on infared. That seemed like a neat superpower. Juggernaut was pretty cool, I thought it was nice how he plowed into that compound trying to get that kid and ran through the walls head first.
/end here

I give it 4 stars. :)

Great movie. Don't see many movies, and I wouldn't have seen this one except one of my friends really wanted to see it. The other two were meh. They were good, but it's weird to see people going insane over them when they're not off-the-wall amazingly great films. This latest one was easily the most entertaining of the three, much like Mission Impossible 3. One problem with X men 3 is that Magneto would have been arrested in real life. That was just too ridiculous of an ommission after all that he did in this movie. I mean cmon. I know it's just a movie but cmon.

As for everyone's cries about the lack of Gambit from all 3 movies, there's only so many characters you're going to fit in....and frankly, he wasn't exactly one of the more impressive X-men characters IMO.

You have to admit that the addition of Gambit would yield some incredible action sequences, though... but chances are whoever they picked to play him would fake the most annoying accent and make the movie a lot worse.

a lot of people seemed upset Gambit wasn't in this one. I didn't know the Cajun was such a fan favorite... and Nightcrawler simply wasn't signed on for this movie, which was sad for me because he was my fave X-Men in the comics and they did him well in X-2.

my only gripe with this movie was that since so many new characers were introduced, some of them were not given enough screenplay and development. however, with so many introduced the movie did a good job with what little time they had.

and to whoever said they would have liked to see Havok avenge Scott's death - this would be problematic because Havok was initially against the X-Men and even a part of the Brotherhood before joining the X-Men. I agree with BlueAdonis that the "Multiple Man" James Madrox was a pretty kewl character, and whoever played him did a swell job (he seemed very mischevious and interesting - like when he first was released he followed his eyes on Mystique's ass as she walked past him). what confused me though, was that the Multiple Man was never a bad guy and was in fact a member of the X-Factor...

it was nice to see the director did his homework on the comics - Bolivar Trask, Leech, and Archlight were essentially second-tier characters but pretty big in the movie. what was confusing to me again, however, was that in the comics Trask was not black, Leech was a little green dude, and Archlight was a guy (not some transvestite looking thing). I suppose I am coming off as a bit of a comic book purist but I shouldn't be complaining because they were still nice to see.

the two Brotherhood leaders that joined up at the mutie convention in the beginning were created by the director in the film (the porcupine guy and the fast chick) and he did a good job with them. Juggernaut was pretty kewl, but in the comics he was not English and he was not a mutant.

I was dissapointed how the director took the liberty to kill so many characters. Cyclops disturbed me the most because he was just done so well with the little time he had in this movie, and it was strange to not have him be a major factor in the Phoenix storyline... also I was dissapointed by the screen-time Rogue had, the fights scenes would have been a little more interesting if Rogue and Cyke were in them.

if they were going to do and X-4 I think the next logical villain to introduce in the X-Men mythos would be... APOCALYPSE! that would be awesome, huh?

^i don't think movie going audiences would understand cosmic scope characters

i was thoroughly entertained by this film, the most floored of all three, but the momentum brought on by a fantastic intro kept me in a good mood.

Oh, and did anyone else think the "Shockwave" charactor looked like an even more camp version of Prince?

My friends an i couldn't decide on shockwaves sex. I thought guy but they thought girl.

The same thought crossed my mind, but then realised it's far too harsh. The third terminator film is fucking horrible.

i would take your critique on board, but am highly untrustworthy of someone who spells "two" as "too" ;)

i don't know anything about the comic books and the original storylines, so i have no comment on that. as far as the films are concerned, X2 set the bar pretty high for X3. X3 accomplishes it's central objective which was to be an entertaining summer blockbuster. but stacked against the other X movies, it's just not as good. special effects movies need great actors to pull off the talking-to-a-bluescreen thing. ian mckellan and patrick stewart are excellent to this end. however, with X3, weaker actors, like Halle Berry, were often forced to carry dialogue that ends up falling very flat. even for the better actors, there was sometimes painful story exposition, like where Xavier is explaining how he divided Jean's pschye. there were many audience chuckles during this part.

but i'm being too critical. i was entertained the whole time, and the last shot of the main character sitting in the park is fantastic.

This was not a good scene. It completely compromised Xavier's leadership, wisdom and patience. Saying something arrogant like "i don't need to explain myself to you." is a total cop out, and cannot be uttered by anyone but really flawed characters.
Patrick Stewart has played an equally strong character in a similar situation where he was forced to break down in another movie fanchise, but that was done without comprimising the character's strength. See Star Trek: First Contact, for the scene where his command decision is challenged by the "girl from the past".

Anyone else majorly impressed with the make up on stewart and mckellan in the flashback intro? They really looked much, MUCH younger.
