To me there is no purpose in extreme over the top sadism for no point other than sadism.

I LOVED Sin City. it was done with so much style and art, with a serious pretty intense plot and plenty of gore, and fucked up shit like the pedophile who skinned his victims and etc. i just feel like its totally pointless when you throw it in there with no purpose and no style. When i watched hills have eyes i felt like i went to a restaurant, ordered a grilled cheese, and instead i got two slices of bread, a couple pieces of cheese, and a packet of butter slapped onto my plate. why cant they try and MAKE something outta the movie, instead of just throwing a bunch of ingredients in without even bothering to stir it up. i dont think it took much skill or thought to create the movie. Step 1: take old movie plot. Step 2: make it less tame so todays audience will be interested enough to keep watching. step 3: take things that always get people upset and throw them into the plot , make sure you overdo it cuz if you use subtlety people wont be thrilled and chilled enough.

the plot was there,,,barely,,,..and if you gotta rely on sheer violence and shock value to keep someone watchin a movie that usually means theres not much behind it supporting the whole thing....thats how i feel about this.

i woulda been cool with the whole thing if there was no rape involved but i just dont feel like thats somethin thats aight to throw in for shock value. same as when youre in a serious arguement (verbally) with someone, theres some low blows that you just dont take if you have any respect for the person.

dont get me wrong, i dont believe in censorship and shit like that, i dont believe that video games make kids into killers, i dont believe marilyn manson made the columbine shootings happen, i dont think that there should be restrictions on movie ratings or that they should ban certain CDs or games or movies cuz of their content. im just lookin at it from the point of view of a person who sees some people viewing some shit so lightly that it can be sad. im all for making a point with strong images and ideas, for educating people, for showin the realness of a situation, but i feel like it was a cheap shot to throw sexual abuse in there with the rest of it and it takes seriousness away from the actual horrible facts of the act when its shown with such little respect on TV/movies. like its just another trick up their sleeve to try and scare you. like its just another way to offend you, to shock you, with no other purpose than that. when its so obvious that its just something to make people have strong feelings, just somethin to make people gasp and stare, how can it ACTUALLY shock when you know its just for shock. you might as well just leave it out, it had nothin to do with the plot, it didnt make it any better, it was just another screen writers "ace in the hole" to guarantee that people would say "yo , that movies crazy". just my 2.

I like horror movies, and i'm not one for over the top sadism like in Hostel - but anything less and it's all gravy for me. A strong plot is definitly nessisary. I sure wish they would start making movies out of the old HP lovecraft short stories, with todays technology I really think they could make something spectacular! Get a good voice actor like Duchovny to handle the monolog... Man, good horror movies are in short supply these days...

^^
Actualy, there are many many movies based on Lovecraft's short stories. As someone who sounds like a Lovecraft fan, I advise that you avoid them like the plague. Every one I have seen has been god awful. It's a shame really, most of the worst movies I have seen were "based on a story by HP Lovecraft". And I do mean the WORST movies I have ever seen.

I'm sick to the back teeth of remakes!. It seems like nobody can come up with original ideas anymore!. It's just a way of making a quick buck if you ask me.
That being said, I don't see how this can be any worse than the original because that was an absolute stinker.

Remakes should only be made if the original sucks, and it seems all we've had recently is a swarm of shamelessly bad versions of films that were great to begin with.

ditto!

there are hardly ever any new movies out to rent that i'd like to see, so i usually rent older ones...rented the original the hills have eyes a litte while ago and thought it was horrible

i wasent gona walk outa the theatre cuz then id look like a weak cunt that couldent handle it. so i just beat the high score on that game snake thats on my phone

I love it when people say a movie sucked and then they reveal that they only saw the original, not the remake. Their opinions are about as meaningful as the corn in my feces.

This movie was much much better than the original. And Lacey, if you would have watched the whole thing, you would know that everyone DID NOT die. Far from it.

I liked it!

i gave it 2 stars because i loved watching these people get massacred.
horrible movie....i cant believe how big of a deal they made about it when it was in theaters
i want that hour and a half of my life baaaack

Horrible acting (but it's a horror) Formulaic plot (again, but it's horror) over-the-top creatures (but it's horror)

all-in-all a good, true to form horror movie, if a bit too much true to form. It elt, in parts that they tried too hard to unsettle you and the effect was almost comical. The dogs, for example. And the rape scene. But you did feel for the mutant peoples. Even though you could tell who was going to pull through within the first ten minutes of the movie-it wasn't bad.

haha....remakes are usually about as meaningful as 'the corn in my feces'....whatever the hell that means 8)

besides, this thread isn't called 'the hills have eyes: the remake.' i'd say both films are up for discussion here.

Pretty standard horror flick if you ask me... Not spectacular, but not crappy either. A couple things here...

lacey k: IF, and that is one big fucking IF, this situation were "real life" and this poor family truly did have all this awful shit happen to them, do you really think that those mutant fuckers wouldn't have raped the girl? Are you insane? I think having the rape scene in there was necessary.

Honestly, if those mutant bastards were sadistic enough to kill and eat all those people, i think they would have done far worse to the girl then they actually did. Would it have appealed to you more if they started skull fucking the hole in the dead (younger) mother's head? Now THAT woulda been interesting.

I hated how after everythign they went through, they end up right where they where in the begining.... ive seen better.

Wrong Turn Ripoff

^^
A remake of a film made decades ago is a rip-off of a movie made a few years ago?

a big deal is being made over this supossed "rape" scene. was she even raped? I say this because I was watching that big deformed guy and that little deformed guy (I think, called Lizard) go at the young lady the whole time and they kept their pants on the whole time.

last time I checked it was pretty hard to rape someone with your pants on.

i finally saw this last night. i was pleasantly surprised. it's definitely not one of my favorite horror films, but it was decent. it wasn't as predictable as i figured it was going to be. and it even had plenty of gore to keep me happy ;)

^ hehehe I saw it last night too!

^I was thinking the same thing :\

I'm glad someone else noticed... I don't think she was raped at all, just... fondled.

^^ about the 'rape' scene- when that scene started, and saw where i thought that scene was going to go... i thought- "no... please don't go there." that'd be crossing the line in my opinion. but i agree with everyone above- i don't think it was supposed to be a rape... just fondling.

AND i'm also glad that nothing happened to the baby. that would have really upset me.

and the dog's the hero of the day. fuck yeah! :)

that dog totally whipped ass! I was watching it with my doggy next to me and I could only dream that he would be that awesome in such a scenario! I thought also if she would have actually gotten raped that it would have crossed the line, I am glad they didn't go there.

what pleasantly surprised me about this movie is how the Democrat Dad actually stepped up and also whipped some ass. I had that Bill Gates look-alike penned down as the first to die. it was interesting that they made him last as he did.
