To me there is no purpose in extreme over the top sadism for no point other than sadism.
I LOVED Sin City. it was done with so much style and art, with a serious pretty intense plot and plenty of gore, and fucked up shit like the pedophile who skinned his victims and etc. i just feel like its totally pointless when you throw it in there with no purpose and no style. When i watched hills have eyes i felt like i went to a restaurant, ordered a grilled cheese, and instead i got two slices of bread, a couple pieces of cheese, and a packet of butter slapped onto my plate. why cant they try and MAKE something outta the movie, instead of just throwing a bunch of ingredients in without even bothering to stir it up. i dont think it took much skill or thought to create the movie. Step 1: take old movie plot. Step 2: make it less tame so todays audience will be interested enough to keep watching. step 3: take things that always get people upset and throw them into the plot , make sure you overdo it cuz if you use subtlety people wont be thrilled and chilled enough.
the plot was there,,,barely,,,..and if you gotta rely on sheer violence and shock value to keep someone watchin a movie that usually means theres not much behind it supporting the whole thing....thats how i feel about this.
i woulda been cool with the whole thing if there was no rape involved but i just dont feel like thats somethin thats aight to throw in for shock value. same as when youre in a serious arguement (verbally) with someone, theres some low blows that you just dont take if you have any respect for the person.
dont get me wrong, i dont believe in censorship and shit like that, i dont believe that video games make kids into killers, i dont believe marilyn manson made the columbine shootings happen, i dont think that there should be restrictions on movie ratings or that they should ban certain CDs or games or movies cuz of their content. im just lookin at it from the point of view of a person who sees some people viewing some shit so lightly that it can be sad. im all for making a point with strong images and ideas, for educating people, for showin the realness of a situation, but i feel like it was a cheap shot to throw sexual abuse in there with the rest of it and it takes seriousness away from the actual horrible facts of the act when its shown with such little respect on TV/movies. like its just another trick up their sleeve to try and scare you. like its just another way to offend you, to shock you, with no other purpose than that. when its so obvious that its just something to make people have strong feelings, just somethin to make people gasp and stare, how can it ACTUALLY shock when you know its just for shock. you might as well just leave it out, it had nothin to do with the plot, it didnt make it any better, it was just another screen writers "ace in the hole" to guarantee that people would say "yo , that movies crazy". just my 2.
