Film: The Departed

I fucking loved this movie. It was awesome. Four out of five stars.

i was very very dissapointed, and shocked that this is what scorsese gets an oscar for(mercy win). half way through the film i was sick of all the cell phone action. the whole thing seemed like it was trying to hard to be stylish, instantly cleche to me. this cant compare to any of his films, it seemed more like some one attempting his style, and is a terrible example of scorsese's talent.

i was anticipating seeing this the first time i saw a trailor, and became frustrated when i didnt notice in theaters(no surprise now)i didnt care for Good Fellas either though, and feel he should be rememberd for Kundun(A++) and Mean Streets.

2 stars from me.

the plot just wasnt appealing to me. i was expectin a different type of movie. the further along it went the more interest i lost. the end was a let down also. but thats just how i feel. i can see others point of view n' see why others liked it alot.

i didnt see any previews for it. when it came out i had alot of court proceedings to deal with. all i really knew was srocsese was the director n' jack nicholson/dicaprio were the big stars in it.

when i heard jack nicholson played an irish mob boss, i thought it was going to be more mob/gangster type flick. and not deal with the police department as much. so the further along it got n' it focused more on the police n' damon/decaprio running around with their cellphones i started to lose interest, cause that just didnt appeal to me.

maybe my simple harsh (no desire to add to the collection) one line review wasnt fair. there were quite a few scenes i enjoyed. n' the characters dialogue was good. my two fav scenes were 1) when dicaprio picks up the call from damon n' they both remain silent, knowin who is on the other line. and 2) jack nicholson talkin about how he hates rats n' makin a facial expression like a rat eatin cheese.

Great movie. Music was good too. "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd is an old favorite. I think the remake of this song is better than original. Saw an interview with a PF member years ago and he said this song was about his doctor.

Okayyy.... so I finally got around to watching this on DVD.

Despite the fact that it's almost a direct lift from Infenal Affairs (seriously, even the dialogue is the same), I thought Nicholson was brilliant as a Eric Tsang replacement and the film did a reasonable job of creating a westernised version. I too felt the ending was a little 'off'. Perhaps because I was expecting it (having seen the original umpteen times), but it didn't quite have the visual or emotional impact of the original. Andy Lau was believably complex. Matt Damon was, well... Matt Damon.

Im watching this on DVD and Im about half way through. To be honest, I'm struggling to get into it. Maybe had I seen it at the cinema where I would be forced to watch it in one go the situation would be different, but yeah, so far Im like "why was everyone raving about this movie?"

Jack seems to be playing...well....any character he has ever played but with a different accent. I dont mind Matt & Leo, and I quite like Alec and Martin. Not entirely sure of the point of Marky Mark's character though. He just seems to swear alot. Perhaps something happens further on that shows why he got Oscar nominated.

Oh, and Im also surprised that they didnt have a 'big name' to play the shrink. Not that the actress playing her isnt good, but with the role call thus far I would have thought theyd through in a name. Unless they either ran out of money to pay the actors or they got wise to the whole 'Nicole Kidman as a nuclear physicist' no-no.

im going to be another one to jump on the 'good film... but not great' bandwagon.
i enjoyed it. most actors put forth something more than just watchable - but for such a star studded cast there was no high point that i saw shining through. no best of career (or even best of the last few years unless you look at jack and films such as 'as good as it gets' and 'about schmidt' or whatever crap he has passed off.)
i'd watch it a few times, it isnt going up in my dvd case next to casino, goodfellas and raging bull. i feel it is visually less interesting, written more poorly and acted indifferently compared to these. ... but if it is on i'd kick back with a drink and some friends.

finally broke down and watched the film, even though i bought the dvd the day it came out. i am extremely pleased with the over all product of the film. Prob the best movie i have seen all year. a few parts of the movie had it's flaws and came out a little fake, but the over character performances were tight.

kinda disappointed that it took me so long to pop the dvd to watch it.

Whaaat the FUUUCK.

This movie was prolly the hugest piece of crap i seen recently. First of all, if i wanted to hear people talk like they have down syndrome, id just watch I Am Sam. the boston accent is so damn annoying that right off the bat it was severe minus points for the movie. yea i know ppl proly think how I talk is annoying too, but whatever this is just my view on the shit so it dont matter.
So.... what was the plot of this movie? I fell asleep like 5 times cuz it was so goddamn boring. what the hell was it supposed to be? None of it seemed even SLIGHTLY interesting at all. it didnt catch me, or intrigue me or make me want to keep watching. i think i prolly woulda got more into a Infomercial for the salad chopper.

I think the best way to say it would be that watchin this movie was the visual equivalent of eating a piece of plain, old, stale, hard bread without water or butter. I didnt even see the whole thing, i couldnt stand it anymore we just turned it off cuz of the extreme blandness. i dont understand how a movie like goodfellas, and then this , could come from the same director. Its funy that there was supposed to be so much shit goin on in the plot , cuz the more crazy twists and shit that got added, the shittier it got. if you want to waste 3 hours, see this movie.

Jus my 2....Prolly not worth much but man I never had a bigger dissapointment about a movie that i was originally pretty excited to watch.
