film: The Day After Tomorrow

I saw an advance screening of this last nite.
I thought is was great. I was worried that they would go over-the-top with some of the special effects and stunts, but I think they did a good job keeping it from becoming 'unbelievable'. I thought the CGI was very well done and it wasn't obvious when it was used (the flooding of New York was cool). Overall, a very good movie.

I give this one two thumbs up

ive heard a few reviews saying it sucks, bad. they say there are too much special effects and not enough developement of the characters or storyline, just armgeddon comes, and people start dying.

i am also looking forward to see if so i can form my own opinion, ill let ya know how it goes on saturday!

Just another "what else can go wrong?" movie.
90% of the movie is full of "what else can go wrong?" moments. The remaining time is there to fit some sort of story, which is incredibly sabby cliche nonsense.

What was with the CG wolves?! They were one of the weakest plot twists I've ever seen. Totally irrelevant.


Worth seeing JUST for the effects.

i'm not big on hollywood films, but there are of course some which are done well. like independance day (though hopefully emmerich has eased back on the americanised schmaltz in this one), this looks to be a good film. i'm looking forward to it.

plus, hey, it's jake gyllenhaal.

This movie sounds like it is the closest movie to a portraying a polar shift or how life would be in a new earth after it that i have seen yet.
Regardless of how good it is, i am interested in the different theories of what will happen.

nah, its wayyyy to extremist. nothing that drastic will ever happen. the world, at many points in its history, was much much hotter...the poles were mild and temperate and the rest of the world was tropical. not even the greenhouse effect can change the world fast enough to cause the types of events seen in this movie. its 100% hollywood

it's the same director as id, and it *is* a blockbuster. had a budget of $180 million

I thought the film was entertaining... but not a great film in any sense.

I liked that Jake Gyllenhaal had a big role (one of my favorite actors), but I really hated Emmy Rossum (played the girl Jake liked) had such a big role.. she's really freakin annoying.

The special effects were pretty cool, I caught myself grabbing the armchairs a couple of times.
