It started out with a good premise, but overall it was dissapointing. It didn't seem even half way realistic as far as the reactions of people.

"If what the movie portrayed was REALLY happening, I think NYC would be a complete cluster fuck and pandemonium would rule."

I couldn't agree more. People seemed far to orderly. Had this been realistic, all hell would've been breaking loose. Not even close to it in this movie.

Minor Spoiler
The scene where they are lighting books on fire to keep themselves warm was completely and utterly stupid. They have a huge library full of books but the librarians are worried about the rare books, as if the other people are desperately after them. The whole idea seemed stupid to me.

^^^ exactly, i'm sure there was an entire fucking room full of those shitty mills and boon romances or something. or bibles :D

1 star.

I only watched it because I was on the plane and was bored. Typical holywood film that takes an idea and exagerates beyond the point of disbelief.

I thought it would have been better then what it was. Oh well all movies are a let down to me lately

F/X were nice, but storyline was so shallow. I mean, did it matter that a father saved 1 kid, even though millions of people died ? Whatever.

if movies limited themselves to taking me up to, but not beyond, the point of belief, i think i'd be more upset.

i never really understood that position - isn't one of the great things about (certain) movies that things happen in them which couldn't possibly happen in 'real life'? can you elaborate?

^^^ i'll give my own perspective (but would still love to hear from rl), but my problem is that this movie purports to be a good (albeit exciting) take on reality, but then proceeds to go entirely beyond anything that could possibly be such....

rl, others: your thoughts?

The main problem with it is in the worn out cliché cataclysmic-science plot that tries to dazzle you with massive special effects in attempt to seduce the masses into parting their hard earned $13.50 to see it. You know what I mean... the anxiety riddled science geek who can't convice the world about his paranoia end-is-at-nigh theories, then things start look bad, then he engages in the predictable I-told-you-so conversation with all those who chose not to fund his research but somehow he manages to get his voice heard by the highest government officials and manages to sell his theory that saves the world. Yay, like I could give a shit! :\

it was kind of a dull movie in some parts, totally not what I expected from it....

but some parts were entertaining..

I enjoyed it. I liked how they went into some detail to explain what was happening like the frozen mammoth and the instantaneous freezing. Althought it might be hard to believe, I ate it up because I'm so gulible. The special effects kept me on the edge of my seat and looked awesome, especially at the start all the tornadoes rip apart hollywood.

Sure the plot is typical to save the world blockbusters but what else can you expect, it's the same thing in all of them over and over again just presented dfferently. Some parts werre overdone like the wolves and the old guy having to cut his own rope, but it'd prob be boring if nothign exciting happened to them on the way to saving Sam and others.

The message of look after the environment and make peace with neighbouring nations is so clear you can't miss it. The president actually not making it is ironic in a captain goes down with the ship sorta way.

Sure it was cheesy and predictable some of the time and the characters were plain, but it just emans there's more time for those awesome effects and action moments which is what this movie excelled in, while stil getting the message across. You can't judge this movie like some artsy cult film with 20 different things to think about when its over, because it isn't one of them. It's a movie made to primarily to entertain with cool effects and get a greenie environment message across, and that it did excellently.

Proof positive that even the heavens favor Florida over Cali!

I disagree:

Film: The Day After Tommorow

What were your thoughts on this film, if you've seen it? It was based on a non-fiction book by Art Bell (Coast To Coast AM) and Whitley Streiber (Communion's) titled The Coming Global Superstorm. I'm a big fan of Art Bell, so I was curious to see how this would turn out.

It was definitely worth watching, if not just to soak up the concept. I'm not a big fan of the special-effects disaster genre, but I do admit it made me giggle to see the Hollywood sign being torn up by mother nature.

I love the fact, that the animation was all done by game studios.=D

Viewers of this movie should also note the VP's physical and ideological resemblance to Dick Cheney.

along with the overall message contained, i think that was the films most redeeming feature. hopefully this will entice some of those americans who have no problem with the current administrations take on global warming to ask for more preventative measures to be taken. overall though, even for it's genre this film is lacking. no substance and very little style, i guess the latter can be forgiven seeing it allowed for a more realistic approach to the visual effects.

oh yeah it SUCKED major ass, but I asked if you found it realistic to Global Warming claims. is global warming real?
