have now seen the movie.

loved the book to pieces (angels and demons was better) - but the thing that was completely lacking in the movie was the acting! Tom Hanks was not the right choice here at all.

they did however convey the thought processes better than i expected when they were solving puzzles.

i guess in the end when you love a book first you are going to pick out all the pieces they missed and the way they change the plot a little to cram it into a couple of hours movie. its always disappointing - but it could have been far worse.

id give it 2 1/2 stars

- Wrong director. Very disjointed creation.
- Wrong lelead actor. When Hanks said "You take care" near the end, I heard "You... take care" a la "You've got mail". hehe
- Absolutely the wrong score! IMO, this is what killed the film. When your film runs the risk of putting people to sleep due to a lack of action, you certainly should consider balancing it out with a slightly more enthusiastic sountrack.
- The ending was horrible. Sorry, what ending? Of all the times to deviate slightly from a book, Hollywood style, in favour of a sensationalist eye-candy moment, this would have been the golden opportunity. Opportunity lost; incomplete/unsatisfied feeling left.

One eight-hour transatlantic flight and one numb, wooden ass later, I enjoyed the illustrated book incomparably more than this comfortable, popcorn laden Hollywood cash grab.

Low three stars
