Film: The darkest comedy in existence ?

I forgot Storytelling . The most recent todd solondz film. It's wickedly dark, and demonstrates, yet again, what an underrated talent John Goodman is.

I actually rented Happiness from my local public library for free! I could not believe my eyes when I saw it on the shelf. If you are looking for majorly fucked up movies to scare the kids, check your local library! =D

I didn't like Happiness at all. Too fucked up for me.

What about Shallow Grave?

After Happiness this would be pretty high up on my list of fucked up dark comedies...

I recently bought Happiness on DVD and none of my housemates have seen it yet. I'm just waiting for an appropriate time to unleash it on them ;)

CB :)

pardon my ignorance, what is "dark comedy"?

i read through all the movies for an example, but ive seen none of them. please inform me

^^^ something that draws its comedy from perverse situations. death becomes her is a fantastic example, because it's so damn funny, yet the entire film is spent laughing at the plight of these three desperately lonely and (for the most part) totally reprehensible characters, but still identifying in some weird way.

dark humour :)

I've got to throw a few more out there: Ghost World, Magnolia, and the Robert Altman classic Nashville. All very well written, very funny and very dark.....enjoy!

I like Solondz and Happiness really left me disoriented. I would say that I thought the Man who Wasn't there was funny... I find pretty much everything funny though=D

Being John Malkovich is deffinetly a dark comedy in my opinion.

I'm partial to Rushmore and Ghost World

I don't really see how Magnolia is a dark comedy.

while not a comedy by any strech of the imagination funny games will certainly rival man bites dog in the level of depravity, in fact its even worse, its a genuinly disturbing film.

definitely HEATHERS,AMERICANPSYCHO, and the ultimate best: PINK FLAMINGOS by john waters although im not sure if that would be considered just plain trash mwahhahahah :)

^^

Ah hah, I agree that is a crazy fucked up movie, but awesome :)

I rewatched Happiness yesterday with one of my housemates who hadn't seen it, and she loved it... I'm not sure if I should be scared or not ;)

Happiness is an awesome movie although quite fucked up.

Throw Momma From the Train isn't terribly dark but it is somewhat dark and very funny, IMO.
And i just saw Duplex and it was funny yet dark as well.
