I've noticed there isn't a thread for this absolutely classic film.
I absolutely love it, i bought it on video years ago and i still watch it all the time even though i practically know the scipt off by heart!

Any discussion is welcome and we'll take it from there.

got it recently on dvd.
definite classick.

will post with more after i watch it again

I really need to get the DVD. Has it got any decent extra features on it?

It is a classic, it always reminds me of when i was a kid :D

^^^Ahahah, love it :D

Love this bit:

Vern:
"I like the ending. The barfing was really good. But there is one thing I didn't understand. Did Lardass have to pay to get into the contest? "

Gordie:

No, Vern, they just let him in.

Vern:

Oh! Oh great. Great story.

Ha, omg that is amazing :D

I think i've found my entertainment for the rest of the night!!

The movie is good but the novella it is based on (The Body) by Stephen King is absolutely amazing. Closest writing I've ever read to capturing exactly what it is to be a boy.

Yeap i read The Body in high school and i still pick it up and read it when i'm bored. It's like the film, you can read it over and over, plus the book has some short stories written by Geordie in it.

It's a beautiful film.

My favourite scene is the camp fire scene. It's where Chris confesses to Gordie that although he got blamed for stealing the milk money at school, he never actually took it.

All the actors were great, but River Phoenix was the one who stood out for me. He was such a natural infront of the camera, and he would have gone on to be one of the greatest actors of his time had he not of died when he did. RIP.

The countryside scenery is what makes the film even better, i know it's set in Oregon but does anyone know if that's where the wilderness scenes were actually filmed?

Oregon is where it's at baby :) Representing the homestate. Beavers for life. Beautiful place and there is still a lot of untouched land once you get into the country.
