^^
my measure for dialouge in comic book movies is as follows:

"its really good when I don't notice how bad it is"

I'd say spiderman 2 either slipped under my fine-tuned grammar and cliche' radar while it wowed me with fighting, or it was more than passable to begin with. Its probably a little of both.

But seriously, this movie was better than any superman flick, any batman flick (maybe), and much better than any other traditional comic book adaptation. Thats plenty for me when I go into the theater expecting to see something along the lines of "Batman and Robin".

i'm only intending to see this because of doc oc.

Why oh why did they not make venom the villan. The Symbiote saga would make for a great summer popcorn movie.

because Venom sucks.

what did he do, really, besides
gnarl his teeth alot, make some fake
snake tongue, scare Parker's wife
and tie him up on a church clock tower
bell thingy?

laaaaaaaaaame

Venom didn't do shit... the same ppl that
liked him are the reason why everyone knows
fuckin' kung fu and shit in comics ... lame lame
lame.

besides, to tell the story properly, you'd need
to introduce the symbiote, have him win SPidey over,
have SPidey reject him, re-intro Eddie Brock (tho' he
was mentioned in the first one - remember he was
a reporter once), have Spider-Man do something
that ruins his career, so forth and so on...

it woudl take at least 2 movies to fully handle that
saga appropriately.... they're already fuckin' up
the phoenix thing over on X-Men.... let's not add
another one to the mix.

(Amazing Spider Man #300 was a good issue, even tho
Venom (and Carnage) sucks)

to talk about the sequel, now...

it was excellent.

great fight scenes.

believeable dialogue ... right up there with X:2, which,
with some rare occassions, registered as the best comic
book adaptation dialogue thus far...

CGI great

didn't notice that it was CGI too much...

a great re-dux of the Doc Oc character and how
he became crazed.....

i do wish the humiliation scene in the #3 issue of
Spider-Man (which was the reason he quit at that
time) was there... simply b-c it was funny as hell...
but this made sense.

the tie in from the first movie was excellent... and the
open-endedness of the ending in this movie was also
stellar... altho i HOPE they don't bring in the HOBGOBLIN.
the GREEN GOBLIN character sucked and his son ain't much
better.

i still say the actress playing Mary Jane is ill conceived
for the part... too plain... too pale... to frumpy... too
short...

I think that Green Goblins son and the nasa guy are going to team up in the next movie because hes so mad MJ ditched him at the wedding.

But I really liked SpiderMan 2 just saw it today thought it was great.

Benefit, how can you say there was no character development?!? One of this things I liked most about this movie (which I thought was great) was how peter parker grew some balls...he really went through some MAJOR character development.

CoffeeMan, interesting idea for the 3rd movie. I was thinking about whether the astronaut would become an enemy but he seemed like way too nice of a guy.

I thought this movie was better than the first (which I also liked) and I'm eagerly awaiting the next installation.

And yes, I agree, Kirsten Dunst is ugly!

i'm trying to find the interview where the director said, in a nutshell, that he hated all the symbiote storylines...

i doubt he'll use them.

I saw this last night, and I have to say I was dissapointed. Too much Peter Parker, not enough SpiderMan. I know part of the storyline is that he quits being the spider, but I think they were trying a little too hard for character developement.

Doc Ock was great though, the effects sequences were really nice. However, I had the same problem with this movie as Blade II, some of the fight scenes in CGI were so FAST you can hardly see what's going on.

I'm going to advise anyone that asks to wait for the dvd on 2.

So...could we be seeing the Lizard for No.3?

I'll have to watch this again to form a better judgment. I was exicted about this film because Dr. Octopus was in it, and I felt they did a good job with him, but I just keep thinking it could've been better. The action scenes were very well done however.

I'd say the character development somewhat dragged the whole feel of the film....similar how some may have felt The Hulk dragged because of slow character development and lack of action. Maybe I was just anxious for some fight scenes...thus my reasoning to give it a second try before passing final judgment.

So far I'd have to say the video game is superior to the movie. =D

I loved it. I think that there was a perfect mix of character development and action. I liked that I didn't really notice the CGI, which is definitely an improvement. In fact I really liked this movie. I dunno, it just kindof clicked...

CB :)

HONESTLY? i didnt like it so much. To quote snakecharmer (whose sentiments are exactly mine)

Good plot-driven development? Yes. A nice mix of action, romance, and heart? Maybe. Alfred Molina as a convincing bad guy? No way. Toby Maguire convincing AT ALL as a hard-ass? PLEASE.
That train-stopping scene where they do the extreme close-up on Spidey's sweat-stained, vein-pulsing face is way too over the top for me to ever take seriously. Hate to say it, but Toby's kind of a little bitch.

And although they pretty much gave away that Harry is gonna be the next villian, I too would like to see the Lizard make some sort of reluctant hero appearance in the next installment.

AMEN! If I see another close up of tobey *im confused and sensitive but really a nice nerdy guy* Mc Guire i might just puke from the cheeesiness. He is such a mediocre actor! I swear, he has used up ALL his screen time.

The only thing that prevented me from falling asleep in my chair was my crush Alfred Molina *swooons* His tentacles just made him so much SEXIER!!!I think he did an excellent job as Doc Ock..when one considers that he became a villain totally against his initial intentions anyway. So the good/bad guy character is fleshed out and runs full circle, and for that, the divine Molina has again proven his weight as an actor. Thats all.

Doh!=D

And Toby is really kind of a litte bitch in real life. Last night I was watching Howard Stern and he was on giving an interview to Stern. Eventually the question got asked, "So how long does it take for a Hollywood star like you to start boning Kirsten Dunst?"

To which Toby replied, stammering, "Uhhhhh, we're just friends."

To which a caller then phoned in saying, "Yeah right dude I was a the Modest Mouse (it actually was a different band now that I think of it, Sparta maybe?) show Hollywood and you were sitting three rows in front of me, and all you did the WHOLE time was make out with her. You didn't even watch the show!!"

Bitch. =D

well, this was fucking terrible.

i thought the cgi was actually quite noticeable (that's a bad thing) in certain portions, the dialogue and acting cheesy to the point of being ridiculous, and the plot totally bland.

i really find it hard to see any redeeming qualities about this film; even dunst, who i normally enjoy, put in a fairly mediocre performance.

^ one spot i noticed the obvious CGI is the shot immediately after thecar is thrown threw the window...

i know that no one hear probably has a "reference" of a real life shot of a car turned over and you're looking at it really close at peopel standing in front of it... but the whole shot (when Dumst and McGuire are standing up and looking towards the camera) looked really fake.

but CGI is a constantly evolving and growing medium... we cannot expect perfection from it for a loooong time.

so, everyone sayinbg how fake things look really need to get ready for atleast 10 more years of really fake looking shots.

The most blatant CGI scene for me was what 1234 already mentioned. The CGI Toby wasn't very convincing, but overall I thought they did an excellent job with the effects.

I absolutely loved it, and thinks it edges out the first Spiderman--mainly because Doc Ock is a much cooler villain than the Green Goblin (though I loved Willem Dafoe's performance, don't get me wrong). You could tell that the actor loved this role, and he almost steals the show. As for the character development, I'm all for that. However, I wish it had kept a few loose ends like the first movie; tidy resolutions are so 20th century.
