Even the new episodes are entertaining for me. But, I think this'll be a nice send-off for the series, I do agree that it's a bit past its prime. The trailers look funny, I'm definitely down to check this out.

Although I agree that The Simpsons has gone off track a bit recently it is still without a doubt one of the best TV programmes ever made. I am definitely going to see this film and I hope it is amazing.

to clarify, in my opinion, the family guy route is non-sequitor followed by non-sequitor, a certain "meanness" the simpsons never used to display (making ned into an overrighteous evangelical douche instead of the kind hearted but misguided christian neighbor, for example), and a general sense of "throw away humor."
Pretty much.

Well put.

i think its gonna suck....what else can they do? the simpsons have done everything. i thought a movie would have come out years ago. and like someone said, if its any indication of how the new episdoes have been, its going to suck. season 4 is the best one IMO, they still had conan o'brien writing for them. such a great season.

as a fan of the series "back in the good days" but currently haven't seen a single full episode in many a season, i went in last night with conflicting hopes and reservations.

i'm glad to say that my hopes were fulfilled, in a fantastic effort in bringing the old crew finally onto the big screen. i genuinely laughed out loud several times during the film and most surprisingly of all,
there's a fair deal of particularly outrageous adult content
.

There's a new style of quicker movements by the characters which at times works well and at others is just silly.

Another note i'd like to make is that some of the humour was eerily reminiscent of the superb series Futurama.

watch it.
first impressions 4.5/5

a side note (irrelevant but weird) : reality is fucking with my head again. during this film there's a conflict between marge and homer which shadowed precisely a minor kerfuffle i had with my wife on the way to the cinema (the exact words were exchanged), and we looked at each other both recognising the coincidence, then turning back to the screen to see homer go through his wallet and one of the things he takes out is a picture of michael jordan with his face stuck over it. if you don't know the significance, then don't worry.

you see a blatant shot of
otto smoking from a bong
oh and
homer goes on another sweet trip

just watch it.

most of the newspapers i read gave it something like 3/4 or 3.5/5.... they all basically said it reminded them of simpsons in the heyday. i can't wait to see it but i can't stand the movie theater with all the kids and shit right after a movie comes out. i'll wait till next week and post my thoughts.

i would highly recommend this in a crowded theatre, just for the laughs and gasps of shock and surprise.

and i'm going to go see it again. the more i think about it, the more i liked it.

I had pretty high hopes going in,but with the exception of spider-pig and the government guy(voiced by Albert Brooks)there wasn't much funny in this movie. When I saw Homer lying around with his pig,it reminded me of the episode in which Homer gets a disabilty monkey. Being reminded of far funnier episodes I saw for free didn't help me like this movie any more.Mr. Burns is one of my favorite characters and he was only in it for about a minute. There was one clever scene when the town was panicking. Everyone in the church and Moe's tavern ran out of their buildings at the same time. They all scream and each group runs into the other's building(the christians driven to drink and the drunks driven to pray) If they had kept it at this level,it would have been BEST SIMPSON'S MOVIE EVER! Maybe when the sequel comes out in another 15years.............. 6/10(just because I love em)

Solid four stars. Lots of great jokes although there were some stinkers in there. I just caught Groening and James L. Brooks being interviewed on Charlie Rose and they mentioned the writers were more or less the all-star Simpsons writers (don't think Conan was a part though :() and it shows. The movie watches like a long, funny episode reminiscent of the glory days of the show, which was a long time ago and this point.

Go see it if you're a fan of the show but unsure about the film.

Funny. I thought those were the least funny aspects of the movie. 8(

I was so impressed with the first viewing i went in for a second on cheapskate tuesday (today). I found it less funny than the first time. but not by much. There are heaps of homages to the best of the simpsons episodes, but i do agree that it needed more burns.

Excellent. Exceeded expectations for me.

I found the animation to be quite impressive in some scenes

Particularly to do with the giant dome, Alaska, and Homer's epiphany scene.

I loved the scene where Lisa is giving the presentation to the town on the environment ("An Irritating Truth", hehe). The way the crowd completely missed the point of the presentation and decided they needed a:

"new one of those things" *pointing at the mechanic lift she was standing on*

Reminded me of the scene from Monty Python's The Meaning of Life, where the business men begin discussing the meaning of life, and end up focusing on the problem of "not enough people wearing hats":

[Large corporate boardroom filled with suited executives]
Exec #1: Item six on the agenda: "The Meaning of Life" Now uh, Harry, you've had some thoughts on this.
Exec #2: Yeah, I've had a team working on this over the past few weeks, and what we've come up with can be reduced to two fundamental concepts. One: People aren't wearing enough hats. Two: Matter is energy. In the universe there are many energy fields which we cannot normally perceive. Some energies have a spiritual source which act upon a person's soul. However, this "soul" does not exist ab initio as orthodox Christianity teaches; it has to be brought into existence by a process of guided self-observation. However, this is rarely achieved owing to man's unique ability to be distracted from spiritual matters by everyday trivia.
Exec #3: What was that about hats again?
Exec #2: Oh, Uh... people aren't wearing enough.
Exec #1: Is this true?
Exec #4: Certainly. Hat sales have increased but not pari passu, as our research...
Exec #3: [Interrupting] "Not wearing enough"? enough for what purpose?
Exec #5: Can I just ask, with reference to your second point, when you say souls don't develop because people become distracted...
[looking out window]
Exec #5: Has anyone noticed that building there before?

:D

The ending, where Homer and Marge ride off into the sunset, left me with a smile on my face.

I saw this on the weekend....it was pretty much what I thought it was gonna be; a good extended episode and not anything more. I was disappointed that the Simpson family themselves were really the only characters from the show that got used (like someone else said, Mr Burns is my favourite character)....there were lots other characters that got bit parts, but none that were remotely central to the plot. I liked that Maggie got lots of good parts; I disliked that Lisa got so few; I disliked that reality creeps on that little bit more....it's almost like the Simpsons are aware they're a cartoon family and they've been doing the same schtick for twenty years, but it shouldn't be like that.....metatextual commentary is good when it's sparse; when it's the whole point of the exercise it destroys the escapism, and that's kind of depressing...

All up, I did like this movie.....I do agree with the poster who brought up the Futurama analogy; Boob Lady completely reminded me of the woman from Kif and Amy's wedding ceremony episode in future - Futurama I think is the next evolution of the Simpsons, but that doesn't mean the Simpsons need to change....
