I was unimpressed. The movie felt like an amalgam of rehashed old episodes (the townspeople angrily laying siege to Homer's house; the psychedelic trip; Homer and Marge's marital woes; Homer impulsively deciding to care for an animal, etc.) which were done better the first time. I didn't find the social commentary or satire to be particularly biting or clever, though the animation is cool.
The problem is largely that we are simply oversaturated with the Simpsons. Part of the genius of the show was that during the first 8 seasons the show was continually evolving; new characters were introduced and developed and we loved them because they were fresh and funny. Now that the pantheon of Simpsons townspeople has been firmly established, there are no surprises. It's gotten very stale. The movie felt stale as well.
It had it's moment, but this film is a sophomoric effort and the franchise should just bow out with whatever dignity it still has for God's sake.
I have high hopes for the Futurama movies though. They are a natural extension of the Simpsons and after being on only a few years, all the good story premises have hardly been exhausted.
