I saw this last night on dvd... I don't like many action movies but I loved every minute of it. Just Smith as a character and his personality made it funny, exciting, tense and enjoyable

What did you think of it if you've seen it?

I had to wonder after seeing this film, if the script started out as sincere attempt to make a statement about gun control, until they realised how ridiculous it is to do an action film on such a subject so they gave up and instead tried to push this movie into the suspect but often memorable "so bad it's good again" catergory?

This movie is almost so bad that it's good, but it just doesn't make it somehow, so the movie ends up just being bad. They made an admirable attempt at making this film ludicrous with the cliches piled on top of eachother (Sexy, bad girl, love-interest + hooker with a heart of gold + russian accent 8o ) and the completely overblown and unlikely action scenes (Smith has shoot outs with the bad guys while delivering a baby and then again whilst banging the actress with the bad russian accent), but somehow the whole thing fell a little flat for me. The humour in this film was badly timed and acted, and just didn't get a laugh out of me.

It's like this film is trying to be Con-Air, but it's too self-conscious and therefore not as funny.

Still it's OK if you have a couple of hours with nothing else to do, but it's not the kind of film you're going to watch twice.

Well I sure will be watching it again. Eh, I guess it's personal taste really... maybe I haven't seen enough action movies to realise that it isn't that great. None the less, I loved it.

my thoughts exactly. and i'm a big Clive Owen fan. disappointing.

horrible.

i told wifey that i wouldn't mind if we turned it off half way through. we persisted out of laziness, or we were enjoying the seafood and sake we were eating too much to care.
but anyway, it's a horrible action film, as beatlebot said, it's chock full of cliches and a hopeless story i might add.
i generall really dig clive owen and paul giamatti, but they were both very stale in this cheap film. the badly cg'd baby face sticking out of a backpack or the end of some rolled up blankets during the less than graceful scenes also added to the amateur feel of the film.

This film was completely lame.
It took some good actors and gave them a completely boring movie to do nothing with.

The best part of the movie was the Strapping Young Lad video on a TV in the back ground in some apartment they were in.

fuck plot. kill, kill, kill.

I am perfectly happy to see nothing but action. infact this film had too much plot. I'd rather see a seemingly random cycle of adrenaline pumping action.

i adore clive owen. i would be happy watching him in anything.

i can see why many would hate this movie, but i liked it. i didn't take it too seriously, and really enjoyed it. the writer/director said he was a huge action buff and that is what he set out to do, and he did it well, imo.

Clive Owen did a bunch of shorts for BMW with a few famous directors. Looks like Clive likes to drive the BMWs...

my fav is Star...

I just watched it and enjoyed it. Nothing special, but more entertaining than action movies that push half-way plots in an attempt to "captivate" audiences. Of course it was cheesy, that's the point.

Not violent enough if you ask me. The last guy should always die a lot more hardcore than just getting shot a bunch of times. That's bullshit - I want to see him destroyed, like getting hit with a mine while getting his leg shot off by a sniper rifle. Or something like that. I don't mean to change the topic, but I think the latest Rambo sets the new standard for satisfying violence.

loved it

i saw it as more comedy/action than anything so its not like i expected wonderful plot and character development etc

perfect movie for when your slightly messy - "OMG did u seee that shit, fuck yeahhhh ahahaha"

This movie was just plain retarded. I get that Smith was supposed to represent Bugs Bunny and Giamatti's character Elmer Fudd, but that didn't help distract from the fact that this movie didn't work on any level at all.

I just saw it last night and there's not one minute of this movie that resonates in my mind, except for me cringing every time Smith's character said one of his stupid lines. You know what I hate? Good actors in really bad movies.

This movie was pointless, contrived, insulting and over the top in every aspect.

It was fucking AWESOME!!

Forget suspension of disbelief. This movie suspends the basic laws of physics.

I don't know how anyone could watch Shoot 'Em Up and take it seriously... and I feel sorry for the people that do.

why the complaints and surprise at cliches and silliness?

it was called "shoot em up!" for crying out loud. kind of sets the tone of the film right there.
