I think that might need a spoiler warning lol, well...
I think that the series is done. I think they wanted to end with a bad ending, and leave the audience with something to ponder. All of the main characters are dead now, and it is just that mate, his wife with an exploded head and his daughter. I don't really see a movie coming out of one scenario like that, but who knows? I think they mean for Saw 3 to be the end.

In Saw 3 you got glimpses of his life before, back when there was a woman he apparently loved. So, you've got the opportunity to fill in the blanks of who was she, what did she mean to him, is she the root of his path to destruction? How long ago was that, and what did he do between then and Saw 1? By the time Saw 1 occurred, he'd become fairly polished and thorough with his traps and studies of people. And on that thought - nobody has addressed how he picks his victims, how he knows so much about them, the people in their lives, their secrets, etc.
