Ong Bak - the thai warrior
This movie had a interesting plot and you get into it pretty easy. I like it cuz it also contrasts the rurual areas of thailand with the city (bangkok).
Anyways a drug lords lackey boy called Don and his homies come to the lil village of nog pradu and steal the head of their Buddha that is in the shrine of their village. the people of the village call it ong bak. and they believe it has mystical powers that keep them safe. so of course they need someone to go to the city and retrieve this precious Buddha head.
So they send Ting, who was trained in muy thai his whole life by a monk who raised him. he meets up with his distant cousin and they go to look for Don together but his cuz is a lil shady and ends up pushing him to fight for money. in the movie the big thing in bangkok is the underground fights where its to the death. shit is pretty wild. its nuts you wont be able to stop watchin.
Its a pretty sick story and if you are interested in Muy Thai or any form of martial arts youll love it. there is some insane fight scenes and lots of action. Also, theres no digital effects or fake stunts....all the stunts are real, the guy who plays Ting , Tony Jaa is amazing. insanely talented.....also the way they filmed it was cool , you get to see a lot of the scenery of thailand which is beautiful. the "bad guy" don answers to is a crazy character, whoever played him was good cuz you definately feel like he is one evil mutha fucka. The dubbing is funny as hell but it aint too distracting. oh yea and if you watch it on the subtitles they say different shit than when its dubbed over cuz the copy i saw had both on at the same time. thats the only bad thing about it.
if you like any kind of fighting movies this is your shit, or any martial arts films in general, even if you just interested in the culture and seein another part of the world.
